Egg Scramble

Fantastic recipe - easy to make and tastes great. Like others I also added some bacon pieces which tasted good. I tripled the amount of spinach which went well, but as I like more greens, will be adding even more next time. Will definitely be making this again!

Avocado-Shrimp Salad

Fantastic recipe - so easy to make and healthy to eat. Also added some red capsicum. Found the onion bit too overpowering, so next time will cook it lightly before adding. Otherwise great recipe - will be making again.

Cauliflower-Cheese Soup

Made exactly according to recipe and it was absolutely delicious! Used lite milk instead of full-cream for a healthy version and still ended up thick and creamy and full of taste. Definitely a keeper.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2011
Instead of flour, I coated the chicken breasts in whisked egg and then breadcrumbs, otherwise followed the recipe as stated. Came out quite yummy! Chicken was tender, sauce was very tasty. I must say our sauce turned out somewhat brown after we added it to the saucepan after cooking the chicken (I hope this was what we were supposed to do!) and I note on the picture the sauce appears white? Or are we meant to cook the sauce in a separate pan?

Pumpkin Stew

Nice warm hearty meal. All the ingredients soften adequately as per the receipe. We added other vegies we had including potatos, sweet potatos, turnips. Then right at the end we added brocolli and zucchini. Great meal - easy to make and very filling - will make it again.

Cabbage and Dumplings

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2011
Made the recipe incorrectly as we got confused about the flour and water bit - only later did we realise the boiled water and the water to add to the dumplings were different. I boiled up some chicken stock - then just added the flour directly into the boiling water and wondered why we couldn't get a dough-like consistency doh! Anyway we were still able to make small balls and drop them into the boiling water to boil. Taste was as other reviewers reported, a bit bland, but this is good in that you can still add things - I added chinese sausage to the mix and it tasted good with it. Will also reduce the amount of butter added too, as it became greasy after a while. Reckon I'll make this again.

Fennel Risotto

Wonderful vegetarian recipe! Just a few minor changes - I used light thick cream and also added some fresh mushrooms as well. Also used fresh parsley which I think gives it a bit more flavour than dried. Tasted quite yummy with some white wine! We were meant to have it as entrees before the roast turkey but hubby went back for a second plate in lieu of the main course...! Definitely a keeper!

Alaska Salmon Bake with Pecan Crunch Coating

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2009
Oh my God! This recipe is AWESOME!! I generally don't like salmon but this had an incredible taste - definitely a keeper! I used fresh breadcrumbs cut into roughly 0.5-1cm pieces which gave the salmon such an amazing mouth-watering texture. Can't wait to make it again!

Garlic Prawns

Simple yet delicious! I marinated them for 9 hours and grilled them on my health grill/sandwich press. Found there was little sauce but enough for our liking. Maybe add more garlic as found the taste could be a bit more stronger. I'd cook this again any day.

Cucumber-Watermelon Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2009
Interesting taste - not bad at all! I added rockmelon to the mix which tasted ok. I also accidentally put in ground pepper, but this couldn't really be tasted in the vinegar. Overall was quite nice to eat on a hot summer day!

Apple Almond Pilaf

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
Quite a good recipe - I used dried apricot as I didn't have any dried apple and it turned out pretty good. I also forgot to add in the honey but overall it still tasted quite good. I made the mistake of eating it with a chicken masala dish, which overpowered the rice. I'll certainly be experimenting with this recipe again!

Spicy Indian Chicken with Green Masala

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
Fantastic recipe - a definite keeper! I used red bell pepper (with the seeds) instead of a green chile pepper (only because red were on special!) and the taste was quite good. I also ended up adding a bit more salt to the chicken whilst cooking. My Indian friend gave it an 8/10! Will definitely be making this again!

Milk Pie, Galatoboureko

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2008
Made this recipe as stated, only I used 5 eggs plus increased the sugar from 200g to 250g and because I've not heard or ever seen "Phylo" dough (is it an American thing?), used Fillo pastry instead. Sweetness was just right - not bland or too sweet. The mixture turned out like custard, and tended to spill out when cutting up the pie. Maybe this has to do with using delicate Fillo pastry instead of dough? Overall, the taste was very good. I didn't make the sauce but just sprinkled the top with icing sugar which was ok. Next time I'll just be trying to make the mixture a bit more thick so it doesn't spill.

Whole Wheat Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2007
I made a mistake in placing the dry & liquid ingredients together before chucking it in the blender. But in the end it was all still good - the mixture still rose. I added some frozen blueberries just at the end which ended up being good. I also made a mistake & added olive oil instead of vegetable oil but in the end the muffins were moist, yummy and not too sweet like you get when you buy the pre-made mixtures at the supermarket. Overall a healthy and easy recipe to keep in the cookbook!

Chili con Carne II

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2006
I changed the number of servings for 5 & was shocked at the amount of seasoning used! As it was, it was way too chilli hot but then again I did use hot chilli powder instead of regular(!) So then I ended up doubling the amount of diced tomatos which certainly helped. I didn't have any cinnamon sticks, so just chucked a heap of powder in & it still tasted good. Overall this delivered quite a good spicy result - I had it with baked potatos & sour cream and the taste was heavenly! This recipe is a keeper.
