Home Style Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2007
OK.. so I think I've pretty much PERFECTED..I did it last night and it is the best home made mac and cheese I've ever had! I used 1 3/4 cup of milk and 1/4 cup heavy cream.. this made it extra creamy and yummy. I also blended in 2 cups of the suggested cheddar as well as 1 cup of provolone and 1 cup of mozzeralla...this made it even more creay and cheesy... I omitted the breadcrumb topping (TOO much breadcrumbs for me) and generously added more cheddar, mozzeralla, and provolone to the top before puting it into the oven... If you like easy, cheesy, and creamy mac and cheese..you will love this recipe with these modifications!

Like previous reviews suggested, I combined the oil, vinegar, garlic, about a teaspoon of balsamic vinegar, and a little of the cajun seasoning in a slider bag and shook the chicken up in there nice and good.. after that I placed in the baking dish and sprinkled with a lot of the cajun seasoning.. this recipe was extremely easy to make, turned out great.. very very moist! this ones a keeper!

Lemon Lush

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2007
My mother has been making this recipe since I was a little girl..it is delisious! Very light and yummy! The only modification I would suggest (that my mother does) is add some crushed walnuts to the crust batter... TIP: MAKE THE CRUST.. as it is the best part of the recipe!

Linda's Lasagna

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2007
While I thought this lasagna was just "alright" my boyfriend absolutly LOVED this lasagna.. I did add a few modifications to the recipe though... I added about 1/8 tsp of fennel seeds to the sauce, about a tsp of italian seasoning. I also added 1.5 cups of water the the sauce (rather than 2 cups) and added 1/2 a cup of red wine (a cabernet that I had on hand). Like everyone else I used ricotta cheese and I added a dash of nutmeg to the ricotta mixture. I think next time I will add some garlic powder to the ricotta mixture as well. For the mozzerella rather than buying preshreded mozeralla, I bought 2 lbs of "fresh" mozzeralla and shreded it myself (this made it SO much better) To the final layer of shredded mozeralla I also added some shredded cheddar which made it extra cheesy and yummy. Thanks for this recipe! It is AWESOME!

Granny Kat's Pumpkin Roll

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2007
Wow, this was great with a few modifications...I used a cookie sheet with edges (BE SURE too because the batter is runny like a reg cake and if your cookie sheet doesnt have elevated edges of course your batter will not be held up by anything)... I used the advice of another reviewer and lined the pan with parchment paper..when I took it out of the over i let it cool for 15-20 minutes the flipped the cake onto another sheet of parchment paper with powdered sugar sprinkled on it, then peeled off the parchment paper.. had no problems with sticking. I spread the cream cheese icing on and sprinkled crushed walnuts on top! Had no problems with cracking when I rolled it. Perfect recipe to make at this time of year! My boyfriend and his friends all loved it!

Seven Layer Taco Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2008
WOW this dip was amazing..and somewhat HEALTHY as well... I used fat free refried beans, low fat cream cheese, light sour cream, and multigrain tortilla chips to lessen up the calories! I first layed down the bean mixture, then the cream cheese/sour cream mixture. Then I topped that with some homemade guacamole (avacado is VERY good for you!) I then put the salsa on top of that and topped off with the tomoatos, green onions, green peppers(extra veggies), then the cheese and olives....everyone at our football party absolutly LOVED this dish. I would recommend it to anyone!

Pork Chops for the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2007
Well this is the first time I've ever cooked in a slow cooker and the first time Ive ever made pork chops.. so i was a bit scared but it didnt come out too bad..I added 1/4 cup honey, and doubled the sauce recipe. I then marinated the chops in 1/2 the marinade for about 2 hours then I mixed about 3/4 of a bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's hickory and brown sugar bbq sauce with the rest of the marinade and poured it over the chops. Mine were falling off the bone in about 3 1/2 hours. My only complaint is that they were a bit to sweet..but that was my fault because I added a bit more brown sugar and honey. Also when my chops were about an hour away from cooking, the sauce in the pot seemed a bit watery so I disolved about 2 tsp of corn starch in 2 tsp of cold water and added it to the pot and it thickened up almost to a nice glaze.. I will be making this again.. except this time I wont add the extra honey and brown sugar! Thanks for the recipe!

Chocolate Banana Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2007
I have to admit when I first tried this fresh out of the oven I wasnt all that impressed.. however that night I stuck it in the fridge and the next morning it was delicious! I think eating it cold just made it a lot more moist than eating it at room temp. Everyone loved this..my boyfriends mother(who is a pro at cooking) even asked for the recipe! I followed the recipe to the "T" except for I added a few extra chocolate chips. Make sure you use a good quality chocolate chip (I used Gheradelli and they seemed to melt in my mouth, every after refridgeration.) Thanks for the recipe.. Im sure Ill be making this again!

These muffins were pretty good but based on all of the reviews I was expecting a lot more.. The crumb topping was very good..but the muffins didnt turn out AS moist as I would have liked them to. I guess that could be my fault..

Chocolate Trifle

Reviewed: May 14, 2007
When I first came across this recipe, it really didnt sound like anything to special to me...but my boyfriend really wanted me to make it so I gave in.. and boy was i wrong.. this dessert was AWESOME! I porued half a bottle of caramel over the first brownie layer and topped the whole thing off with some crushed heath bar and it was perfect! Also, it tastes MUCH better the next day (the brownies soften up) so if you are making it for a special occasion I reccomend that you do it a day ahead of time...Im sure I will be making this one again!

Garlic Bread Mama Rita's Way!

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2007
This bread was great although I made a few modifications. First instead of using hoagie rolls, I just used a baguette and second, I doubled the cheese mixture and Im glad I did because it happened to be just enough. O yeah, and I added some shredded mozzeralla on top of the cheese mixture before broiling. MMMM..

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2007
This recipe was very good, dont get me wrong.. but it wasnt anything better than any other lasanga that I've had before. Like others, I omitted the salt and added a few dashes of nutmeg to the cheese mixture. I added shredded mozzeralla to the top of the dish to make it just a little extra cheesy and Im glad that I did... Im sure I will make this dish again, unless I come across one that is better.

Garlic Butter

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2007
Wow.. I really wish I would have read the reviews before I made this! 1 tbsp of garlic salt is WAY TO MUCH! Especially since butter is already salted. I think next time if I used way less garlic salt, this would have an awesome flavor! The paprika and all the seasonings really give this butter a beautiful color.. excellent for presentation!

Sandy's Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2007
If I could have given this 4.5 stars, I would have. Overall I thought this recipe was good, just not anything extraordinary. The cake just tasted like a normal chocolate cake to me, but the frosting was very very good. The addition of the sour cream into the frosting gave it a little "tang" which I thought was delicious. The only alteration I made was a made it a two layer cake (I only had to 9 inch pans!)..Oh and I accidently dumped the dry ingredients one by one into the wet mixture, stirred that, then added the sour cream. I dont know if that affected the overall taste of the cake or not (?) Overall, I dont know if I will be making this again..

Almond-Crusted Halibut Crystal Symphony

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2007
I went to my grocery store and they did not have halibut! So I used tilapia and I dont know if it wouldve made a difference if I would have used halibut.. this recipe was very good..however Im not sure it was good enough for the amt of calories it has. I, like others used fat free half and half in the sauce...and mine never really thickened up ( I dont know if it was supposed to).. plus the butter flavor stood out a lot to me..kinda tasted like melted butter with spice in it.. (which is basically what it is..)..I used 8 tbsp and that seemed like enough to me. However, the crumb/pecan topping was phenomenol.. i just dont know if I can get past that prevelent taste of butter in the sauce..I probably wont be making this again..

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2007
Wow.. these brownies are awesome! I doubled the recipe and used a 9 x 13 inch pan.. but there wasnt much batter for that big pan, so I made more batter (without doubling it this time) and they came out to the perfect thickness... the frosting came out good but it is pretty sweet... you do have to add milk untill youve reached your desired consistancy. Ill be making these again, Im sure! Thanks for the great recipe!
