My favourite thing to do, hands down, is cooking. I love looking for new recipes and trying/adjusting them. My perfect day is spent planning an entire menu for a fancy dinner/lunch, picking up the ingredients, then spending hours in the kitchen. My boyfriend loves trying new food, so he's my guinea pig.
My favorite things to cook
Having grown up in a big meat eating family, and then being in a relationship with a vegetarian, my habits have really changed. From the first instance of me buying tofu and throwing it out because it had gone bad since I didn't know how to cook it, to an entire repertoire of vegetarian/meat substitute/tofu dishes for any occasion.
My cooking triumphs
The baklava and classic tiramisu recipes from this site are incredible. My friends and family are so impressed by them that they think I am a phenomenal baker. Although I love to cook, I'm not that great of a baker, so any baking that gets such great reviews is a success.
My cooking tragedies
When I was still in high school, I made a curry dish that called for red curry paste, which I got from the local Asian supermarket. I didn't understand the writing on the package, but it did say curry and the picture showed that it was red. As soon as I opened the package, the most awful, rotten/dead smell came out; I didn't know any better, so I went ahead and used it in my recipe; I thought it would dilute/blend with the other ingredients. The smell was even worse after that (if possible) and I couldn't bring myself to taste it. I put it in the fridge, hoping that the putrid smell would be gone once cold. The next day, I called my little brother, who had been away the previous evening, and asked him to try it. Since he used to love my cooking, he didn't hesitate in trying it cold. He was soooo disgusted that he spat it out, and has not let me live it down to this day.

Split Pea Smoked Turkey Soup
I usually just use 1 piece of smoked turkey thigh, and absolutely love this recipe on a cold winter day with some crusty french bread.

Chicken Makhani (Indian Butter Chicken)
Excellent. The only change I made was to add a can of chickpeas, and double the recipe, otherwise perfect!
