Not much to tell... I'm a 40ish wife and mother who really enjoys cooking and trying new recipes!
My favorite things to cook
All kinds of things. Unfortunately, my daughter and husband are both somewhat picky eaters and between the two of them it's difficult for me to find things that we all like. Some of our favorites are pasta dishes, shrimp dishes, just about anything with chicken and some beef dishes, too.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Just like my mother did (and my grandmother before her), I fry my "country steak" in bacon grease only I add some vegetable oil, too. The bacon grease makes it extra yummy! We also use it to fry chicken as well. I think that comes from back during the war, when vegetable oil was rationed. My grandmother saved bacon grease and used it for cooking like we use vegetable oil today. Other traditions are greens on New Year's day, along with black-eyed peas (though I prefer beans) and "backbone & rice"!
My cooking triumphs
A couple of years ago I made supper for a casual get-together for friends at my place and I made a baked chicken with lots of garlic, plus a gravy that included the roasted garlic. I also made a homemade salad dressing. My friends all raved about the chicken and how juicy it was (I cook it breast down for the first 40-45 minutes!) and they also loved the salad dressing (a simple "true" French vinaigrette made with shallots added... my mother-in-law taught me how to make it!).
My cooking tragedies
No true tragedies, although I've made a number of recipes that either my husband or daughter didn't care for, and I end up being the one that has to eat most of the leftovers!
