White Bread I

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2013
Just made this for the first time, and it was also my first time making bread, and it turned out WONDERFULLY! Plus, it was made with stuff that I already had in the cupboards and I didn't need to go buy anything special to make it, which is always a bonus!

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2013
i made this with my 5 year old tonight. first off, i had to add more water to it because all of the dry did not mix together with the wet all the way. i had to add almost another 1/4 cup to it, but after that, it came together rather quickly. we turned this into 2 personal pizzas (im guessing 6 inch each?). i get that this isnt a very sophisticated, and you can tell by the taste. it is very dense and slightly tough. the bonus to that is that it is very filling as well. i think next time i make it, i will try to make the pizzas a little thinner (although they were fairly thin as it was) and see if that helps with the denseness. if you like an airy (lighter maybe...more like delivery i guess) crust, this wont be for you.

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2012
i just made this and i LOVE it! i cut the recipe in 1/2 because it was just me eating it, and there was still enough to have leftovers for prolly 2 more meals. i didnt have any plain tomatoes, so i used some chili ready ones with green chilies and holy spice lol. i also used turkey sausage. totally a keeper for nights when i am kid free!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2012
I LOVE this recipe!! I had never like cornbread until I came across this! I generally make it in the pan, but today I made mini muffins for my daughter's class. I made a double batch and it made 108 of them (with enough batter for maybe 6 more, I'm not sure though, I didn't make anymore). I had to play with the time a little bit. I started with 10, next batch I went down to 9 and finished with 8 minutes. They were a little dry with the higher cook time, but not so dry that you can't eat them. I thought they were perfect at 8 mins.

Mama Palomba's Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2012
I love this recipe! The first time I made it, I made it as written, but I cut it in half. There was still MORE than enough (I was able to freeze 3 containers of it after dinner was done). I was not a fan of the hot sausage in it, to me it gave it a burnt taste. I made it again tonight, except I substituted ground turkey for the beef and used all mild sausage (my store didnt have any turkey sausage or I would have used that). I also put the meat in the food processor so there werent any huge chunks in there. After making a batch of stuffed shells for my daughter and I, I still had enough to fill 4 dishes to freeze. This sauce is better than anything I have ever bought in the store, and costs way less in the end. And it is versatile, which makes it even better!

Grilled Cod

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2012
this was AMAZING! i dont think i put quite as much cajun on it as it called for, but it still had quite the kick to it anyways! the only thing i did different was i put non-stick foil over my grate, so i had to up the cooking time to about 10 mins total. even my 4 year old devoured it! this is a keeper!!! and, i plan on using it year round!!!

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2012
i LOVE these!!! i made them for easter dinner and everyone DEVOURED them!! i did make a few changes though. first, i used 2 bricks of cheese (just shredded it in my processor), and then i added hormel real bacon bits (not the crunchy ones). i made them for dinner tonight and added 4 slices of american cheese between the layers just for a little more cheese (you can never have too much cheese imo! lol) and, they are AMAZING as leftovers!!! if you have any that is!!!

Simple Baked Apples

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2011
This was SO yummy! However, I made a few changes...First, I didn't have any nutmeg, so I just doubled the cinnamon to compensate. Then, I added about 1/2 cup of brown sugar to the mix and about 1/2 a cup of quick oats. Then I sprinkled about 1/4 of brown sugar over the top of the apples before baking. I also substituted cream for the milk (but only because that is what I had on hand). SOOOOOOO good!

Baked Chicken Nuggets

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2011
I made this for the first time tonight, and I will make it again. However, the next time I make it I will be leaving out the salt (I didn't put in as much as it called for and it was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY too salty!!!) and will most likely cut the thyme and basil down quite a bit.
