Mexican Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
EXCELLENT. I was able to roll these out super thin and they tasted fantastic. I've never had a whole wheat tortilla from the store, and now I know I never need to try one! Next time I'll experiment with olive oil and perhaps slightly less salt. Thank you for the recipe!

Heddy's Black and Red Bean Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2010
I made the maple syrup version, and I have to agree with other reviewers that said it was bland. However, it wasn't so bland that I wouldn't have eaten it as it was, so I don't think this is a bad recipe. It thickened up really nicely. For my tastes, though, I added some curry - which made it AWESOME. (But then, I love curry!) Next time I make it, I'll either try the chili powder version or skip the syrup altogether and just use curry. Thanks for the recipe!

Brown Sugar Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: May 9, 2010
This was great! I was looking for a frosting for a spice cake that didn't require powdered sugar, as I was all out. I read the reviews and noted that some people said there wasn't enough to frost a whole cake, and as I was frosting a two-layer 9-inch round cake, I added half of another package of cream cheese just in case (and adjusted other ingredients accordingly). It's a good thing I did - I would have had to REALLY stretch if I had made it as written, and I don't load my cakes with frosting, either. Also, I didn't have almond extract, but I think it would have been divine if I had. If you're looking for a super-sweet, sugary frosting, this isn't it. But personally, I don't like frostings so sweet my teeth hurt just by being in proximity, so this was awesome.

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2010
These were awesome! Super fluffy and delicious. I guess I was raised expecting my pancakes to be midget-sized, because I ended up with 14 instead of eight. Since the ingredients are so common, I doubt I'll ever want to buy another box pancake mix again! These are so much lighter and tastier anyway.

Wonderful Short Ribs

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2010
I agree that this was awesome! I've never made short ribs before, so I desperately needed a recipe. The only change I made was that I used crushed tomatoes instead of tomato sauce - and that only because I didn't have any tomato sauce. Even my mum, who is not a fan of ribs, thought it was great. Really easy, too! Thanks for the recipe!

Wheat Crackers

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2010
Loved it! I cut the dough in half and kneaded into one of the halves: 2 tbsp. of flax, ground, and probably a teaspoon of Italian herbs. I couldn't taste the herbs, so obviously I need to add more next time. I love flax so I loved them. But the plain half was delicious too! Not much of a pain to make (no more trouble than bread and I do that at least once a week), and I didn't even have parchment paper to help with rolling them out. I just floured the counter well.

Polynesian Coleslaw

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2010
I was looking for a cabbage recipe to use up the cabbage I had. I did a few things differently due to personal taste (cilantro tastes like soap to me so I didn't use it, I don't like things too salty so I omitted the 1/2 tsp. of salt), but otherwise followed the recipe. Tasty! I almost felt like the sauce was missing something, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five. But I would make it again as-is!

Indian Curried Barley Pilaf

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2009
This was delicious! I need to make sure I have barley on hand now just to be able to make this dish. I'm not really a raisin-in-things person, so I didn't use any raisins, but otherwise followed the recipe. Soooooo good!

Chicken Soup With Black Beans and Corn

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
Nom! This was delicious! The only things I did differently were 1) I used my own chicken stock (and chicken) that I already had on hand instead of the chicken soup base, 2) I didn't use a jalapeno, because I didn't have one, and 3) I didn't use cilantro, because I'm one of the people who thinks it tastes like soap :) The soup was fantastic - filling and rich - and I'm sure it would be better with the kick that a jalapeno would give it. I'll totally make it again.

Japanese Okonomiyaki

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2009
Oh, yum! We really enjoyed this. I've never had okonomiyaki before so I wasn't quite sure of what to expect for the taste, but this was excellent. I didn't have any pickled ginger, so unfortunately I left it out. Instead I added green onions. We had it with okonomiyaki sauce. Unfortunately I had no Japanese mayo - and I didn't think American mayo would be the same :) I'll look for aonori next time I'm in an Asian market too. I'll definitely make it again, and I think I'll try shrimp or the mixed seafood suggestion as well!

Raspberry Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2009
Absolutely delicious! I had some frozen raspberries from a wonderful farmer's market, and I was looking for the perfect sauce recipe to use them in. This is it - the sauce was amazing on a dark chocolate cake. Next time I make a chocolate dessert, I'm using this sauce again!

Breaded, Fried, Softly Spiced Tofu

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2009
This was very tasty, and better than fried tofu I've tried making in the past! We ate it with quinoa and some steamed veggies. My only complaint was that the breading tasted a bit flour-y. The spices were delicious, though. I'm interested in the suggestion of adding ground nuts/seeds to the breading. I think I will try that next time I make this - because I do plan on making it again!

Crispy Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2009
Super tasty dish! I used boneless, skinless breasts, as I didn't have a whole chicken on hand, but luckily I had all the other ingredients. I used a fraction of the butter, but mine still crisped up nicely. It was moist inside as well. The next time I make it, I think I'll experiment with the spices - but it's excellent as is!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2008
Absolutely fantastic! I haven't had a Cinnabon in a long while, but this tasted perfect to me. And the icing was divine! The only things I did differently were: I didn't have margarine, so I used butter; I mixed the butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar together and then spread it on the dough; and I put parchment paper in the bottom of my glass baking dish. I often use parchment when baking breads - cleanup is so so so much easier and you don't need to grease pans if the recipe suggests it.

Eggless Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2006
I did have (and can eat) eggs, but this recipe was rated so high I had to try it. Tasty! I might try more peanut butter and less shortening next time like many people suggested, but the cookies came out wonderfully nonetheless. And I can share them with my cousin who doesn't eat eggs. ^.^
