Spiced Butternut Squash Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2011
Very good soup. Out of necessity, I used one medium butternut squash, 2 TB bacon grease, 2 leeks, 3 cloves garlic, 6 cups chicken broth, no potatoes, no onions, and white wine instead of sherry. It was still delicious.

Great! I followed the advice to make sure the beets were thoroughly cooked before pureeing. Very smooth and tasty.

Great recipe. I used some of the suggestions from other reviews, like adding more blueberries. So moist and yummy.

Garlic-Herb Roast Pork

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2010
This is quick and delicious. I used the herb mix on a loin and on a shoulder roast- both turned out great. My house smelled like a restaurant while this was cooking. I added a little more oil to make it easier to run onto the meat. I substituted thyme for the rosemary and the flavor was perfect. XOXO Joce

Zippy Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2009
It's great, even with my necessary substitutions. I needed to use canned tomatoes instead of fresh, and frozen green beans instead of the peas and carrots and it was still delicious! XOXO Joce

Sara's Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2008
Yep. It's the best. Honestly, I have never enjoyed pumpkin pie so much as I did this. And, I used my own pumpkin, not canned, and it came out perfect. Not watery in the least. XOXO Joce

Good gracious! Lord be praised- these cookies are the very best. Really. Thank you good woman for sharing this with the rest of us. The world is better place when these cookies are on the counter. I added some Hershey's Special Dark chips to half of the batch, I needed some chocolate. Those are good too! ~Joce

Chewy Gooey Cookies

Delicious! Just reduce the amount of almond extract, it's a bit overpowering. The other ingredients are so nice it's a shame to cover them up.

Molasses Cookies II

These cookies really are delicious and soft and practically perfect in every way. Except that they are extremely SALTY! I would strongly recommend that you reduce the salt to 1/4 teaspoon.

Apple Butter with Honey

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2008
This recipe is overall a good recipe, however the spices about blew me away. WAY too much cloves and allspice, I would suggest, as others have, to reduce to about 1/4 of the recommended amount. (Even less if you grind your own spices like I do.) I wish I had read those comments before I made it! It's edible, but a in small amounts, LOL! I agree that the honey gives a it great flavor, though, and I will make this again with less cloves and allspice, of course.

Apple-Cinnamon Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2008
Delicious and EASY. I used regular wheat sandwich bread and it kind of disappeared, so I will use heartier bread in the future. I live on a farm with free eggs and apples, so this is a recipe I will use again and again. It is also a nice way to serve up french toast without standing over the stove while everyone else eats! ~Joce

Colonial Hot Buttered Rum

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2007
This recipe is easy to make and serve. I served it with Thanksgiving dessert and received a ton of compliments. Since I do not keep whole cloves on hand, I just emptied out a teabag and put 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves in the empty teabag. I then put the teabag in the crockpot with the rest of the ingredients. (I also added 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg and 1/4 teaspoon allspice to the teabag.) I love vanilla and added 1 teaspoon of that to the water mixture. These additions mingle well with the original recipe, especially if you love holidy spices like I do!

This recipe is a bit sweet and not very substantial. I tweeked it by using just one packet of Jello and more cottage cheese. Enjoy!
