I learned to cook from my Mom, who is a fantastic cook. I was not that interested until I got married.(At 18!) Then food became very important. I wanted to please my husband, and after many "canned" meals I decided to take my mother's cooking a lot more seriously and learn some of her secrets.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook a fresh turkey for Thanksgiving. They always seem to turn out great. I like to bake when I'm in the mood. I like to grill up some nice chicken kabobs or a homemade apple pie. Mostly comfort foods.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I always cook the Thanksgiving turkey with stuffing and gravy for a crowd of 13 or 14 each year. I used to bake Christmas cookies with the kids. Now they are grown and I have to find some new traditions.
My cooking triumphs
When I made my Dad a really nice banana cream pie for his birthday. He loved it! I made a special 3-D birthday bear cake for my son when he turned one. I did all the decorating myself. It looked like a pro! Everyone loved it.
My cooking tragedies
I somehow turned potatoes into wallpaper paste on Thanksgiving!! It had never happened before or since, only on Thanksgiving! My sister-in-law doesn't let me forget every Thanksgiving.
