I'm a 26 year old mother of 2 young children. Grace is 3 and Jordan is currently 8 months old.
I couldn't cook to save my life just a few years ago, but after coming on here for awhile and looking around, watching cooking shows and spending some time with Grandma, I can make a VERY wide range of foods and receive a lot of compliments when I cook.
I always put my heart into the meals I prepare, just like any other thing I do for my family. Well, maybe not always, but quite frequently!
I normally stick to simpler recipes and I add a lot into them. I'm big on flavoring, and I don't stop until the flavor is perfect.
My favorite things to cook
It really depends on my mood. I'm a huge fan of Mexican food, so I make a lot of that. I also love stuffed bell peppers, there are so many ways to get creative with that. I love stuffed chicken breast, turkey, chilli, steak....I guess I have a lot of favorites.
I don't like to make the same thing again and again, I like to try new things. So my favorite things to cook are things that I can make differently every time.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother taught me to make pie. We make enough to make several pies, and then we fill all the pie tins and freeze the ones we aren't using (in the pie tin). She taught me to roll it out in between cling wrap to keep from making a mess. She had 8 kids, so she knows a thing or 2 about cutting corners like that!
My cooking triumphs
I've gotten to a point where cooking is a science I'm familiar with. I can make up my own recipes and know what I'm doing, even if I've never made or even tasted it before.
My last great meal I was happy with was Mexican meatballs. I liked the way they tasted so much I made a bunch of hamburger patties the same way and everyone loved the mexican hamburger. Easy, I know, but that's how I like it!
My cooking tragedies
When I was 18 years old, I couldn't cook a thing. My mom came to my house and was surprized to find I had NO meat! I didn't know how to cook it, so why buy it? She gave me a bunch of meat for my freezer and told me what to do with it.
Well, I used some of the hamburger to make spaghetti, but it was a long process because I didn't defrost it int he microwave! It was such a pain that I didn't use any of the meat again for about a month, then I didn't know if it was still good or now. So, not wanting to risk food poisoning, I took ALL the meat out of my freezer and threw it away!!!!
Boy, it wasn't that long ago, but I've come sooooo far!
