I like to find and create quick, easy recipes that use ingredients that you would usually keep in the house. I also love to experiment and create new recipes of all kinds. I've steered away from my family's tendancy to cook fried foods. I have several digestive conditions that make anything fried, high fat, or high sugar a big No-No for me. I try to avoid frying food whenever I can. I tend to bake, broil, boil, grill, and steam meats and vegetables whenever possible to reduce my fat intake.
My favorite things to cook
My specialty is all things Chicken. I'm also pretty good with a charcoal grill.
My favorite family cooking traditions
As a newly-wed, my husband and I are slowly starting to blend old family traditions and create new ones of our own. His mother made him Meat Roll and fried potatoes every year for his birthday. Now I make him Meat Roll, Fried Potatoes, and a Red Velvet cake for his birthday each year. For our dating anniversaries, I always made a fancy home-made meal such as home-made chicken parmesan. Now that we are married, I plan to continue to do the same thing for our wedding anniversaries.
My cooking triumphs
Over the years I have created about 1/2 a dozen or so of my own recipes that are now family favorites.
My cooking tragedies
I learned the hard way to never use old ingredients or ones that you question the freshness of. My garbage disposal of a cat wouldn't even touch the concoction that I made using stale pasta, freezer burned porkchops and cream of mushroom soup - and that is pretty bad since this cat will eat anything that is remotely edible.
