About this Cook
I am whimsical and nonsensical and quite irrational. I love fine art, music, and food. I enjoy ballet, literature, and film. I am married to one of our nation's finest, a United States Marine infantryman, 3 time veteran of the current war. I am the proud mommy of a Basset Hound named Basil.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
Greek dishes on holidays. Gratuitous pies. Carpet picnics.
My cooking triumphs
The perfect chocolate chip cookie, also known as Chesty's Chocolate Chip Cookies (because it's good enough for Chesty)!
My cooking tragedies
My husband hates food. If it isn't over-salted, over-processed, garbage from a pick-up window, he isn't interested. And I do NOT cook that kind of crap.

Koulourakia I
i am greek, and this recipe is not an authentic take on koulourakia. the consistency is much too sandy, even though i left out 1/4 cup of flour. also, the butter flavor is too strong.

Ginger Snaps II
omg these are fantastic! i took everyone's advice and added more spices, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon and 3 of ginger, plus a pinch of nutmeg. i also used 1/2 cup of butter and 1/4 cup of shortening, and halved the salt. i actually found that 9 minutes wasn't long enough, even when cooled the cookies weren't done enough to hold together, so i let the next batch go and forgot about them until 12 minutes had passed! i thought they were sure to be burnt and ruined, but they were actually fantastic and absolutely perfecct. they were chewy and moist and soft, yet firm and really quite professional looking. they taste amazing. great recipe!

Barley Chicken Casserole
not a big hit at my house. way too bland, despite the use of cream of mushroom soup, and garlic, in addition to the spices from the recipe. the bacon seems really out of place and pointless, i thought it would lend some salt and flavor but it didn't. i'll finish what i made, but won't make it again.
