German Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2014
I can't imagine anything I did wrong, because I'm certain I followed the recipe nearly exactly. It could just be a difference in taste and that this is a flavor I personally dislike. :-(

Italian Style Winter Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2007
My husband and I were absolutely amazed when we made this recipe. I had intended to follow it exactly, but we're not big garlic fans, and we love onions, so I made a few small changes. I only put in a clove and a half of garlic, and I upped the onion to about 1 cup (half a medium onion). I didn't quite have 8 cups of chicken stock, but I used what I had (probably about 6 or 6.5 cups). We also like a lot of meat, so I believe we put 6 links of sausage instead of 4. It was more like a stew than a soup, but we liked it that way. I can't wait to make this again, and next time I plan to double it and share with relatives! Thanks for sharing!

Polish Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2007
This seemed to be the kind of soup that improved with time. Being only my husband and me, we had leftovers for a couple of days, and as time passed the flavor increased. I cut up the carrots and the potatos to bite size, and sauteed the onions and half of the sausage before adding to the pot. Also, I had intended to use chicken broth instead of water, but forgot. I found myself wishing I had. Though the soup was still okay, the water seemed to tone down the flavor a lot, so next time we will probably try broth, and sautee all of the sausage and onion first. Can't wait to try it again!

African Chicken Stew

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2007
Absolutely awesome! I'm not one for a lot of spice, but this was pretty good. We couldn't find garbanzo beans at the time, but now have some and plan to make this again. You'd never know it unless you tried it, but chicken and peanut butter flavors are an excellent compliment to each other.

Grilled Corn on the Cob

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2007
We grill them in the husk, and afterwards add some butter, but usually omit salt and pepper. The corn has a wonderful natural taste.

Oven-Roasted Vegetables

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2007
I had everything but red onions, but tried it anyway. Turned out great! I added corn in the first time, but it came out a little chewy, so the next time I boiled the corn and added it in after the other veggies were cooked. Again, it turned out great! A quick and easy way to add veggies to any meal.

Mushroom Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2007
The only problem I had making this recipe was that about 1/3 of it burned before the cooking time was up. I'm not sure what I did wrong, unless it had something to do with the fact that I only had the boil-in-the-bag 10-minute rice. I used that and followed the directions exactly, but close to the end of the cooking time I heard it start to pop and smelled it starting to burn. (It could just be my tricky gas stove). What didn't burn was really good though! I'm definitely going to try it again.

Easter Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2007
I made this for our Easter sunrise service breakfast at church and got a lot of compliments. As some of the previous reviewers did, I also made the hashbrowns first and used them to layer the bottom of the casserole dish. I then mixed the remaining ingredients and poured it on top of the hashbrowns and baked it. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to solve the problem of the hashbrowns being "mixed in." The egg mixture still went down into the hashbrowns and it didn't taste like I'd tried to separate them at all. It was still very good, though! I'll definitely make it again!

Bow Tie Tuna Florentine

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2007
The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because: When we decided to make it, we couldn't find pesto sauce mix anywhere. We didn't have the ingredients to make our own pesto sauce, so we ended up kind of creating our own recipe based on some of the ingredients listed in this one, plus a couple more we had around the house. We really want to try making this one again, though. It sounds wonderful... if only we can find a place that sells pesto sauce mix!

Chicken Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2007
My husband and I absolutely LOVE this recipe! We have decided that the next time we make it we will make enough topping to cover the whole casserole, and probably bake it a little longer. Thanks so much for sharing this one. It's definitely a keeper!

Quick Asian Beef Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2007
This was quick and easy, but the textures just didn't mix for me. Mostly, I think it was because the ramen noodles were too soft. My husband and I both ate it, and thought it was okay though. Maybe next time I'll try a different pasta. Or perhaps rice.

We liked it much better without the honey mustard. Tons of compliments!

Kielbasa with Pasta

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2006
My husband and I tried this with just two differences. We used diced tomatoes instead of stewed because they're more "bite-sized." We also used "bow-tie" pasta instead of angel hair (for some reason he's not a big fan of angel hair pasta). Not a bad dish, I'd say! We're definitely making it again. However, next time we will probably try something closer to angel hair than bow-tie. I imagine it's easier to eat that way. We're also going to try a little less tomato and more onion and pepper.
