Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2011
AWESOME!!! Very adaptable for those going organic too. I used organic apples, organic sugar, whole wheat flour, and all natural oats. I've made this several times and it's a hit with everyone! Like other reviews, I doubled the cinnamon, added nutmet and doubled the topping.

Traditional White Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
Very Good! We used one third each of all purpose, wheat, and bread flour. Also substituted butter for the lard. Halved the recipe. My 5-year-old loved the bread and the learning process!

German Chocolate Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2006
Very good fudge! I was worried that it would turn out grainy, but it was very smooth and creamy. The recipe was a tad confusing, but I must have followed it right, because it turned out great. It did take a while to start boiling as other people wrote. Once it was at a pretty good bubbly boil, I boiled it for 5 minutes. Make sure you stir constantly. I had no trouble finding German chocolate. I think I used Bakers. And for the chocolate chips, I used Ghirardeli. I've found that if you use cheap chocolate, it'll taste like cheap chocolate. I also ended up making half with nuts, half without. Both were good. These are a Christmas present for my in-laws, and I'm sure they'll love it! If not, I'll just eat it all! :-)

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2006
Very Good! I've tried a few carbonara recipes and I love this one. It takes a bit longer to make than I expected, but it was good in the end.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2006
This is one of my new favorite recipes! This was so good I'd rate it 6 stars if I could. Although, I didn't have paprika, so I just used Lawry's Seasoned salt and that worked fine. Also, I found out that I ran out of toothpicks, so I had to snap the heads off wooden matches and use those! :-)

My Amish Friend's Caramel Corn

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2006
Excellent recipe! Very easy too! This was a fun recipe to try because I popped fresh popcorn and this was the first time I used an air popper. My 15 month old was amazed by it! :-) I think I may make a second batch. Good idea with putting it into a paper bag to coat.

Cinnamon Hazelnut Biscotti

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2006
Wow! I've never made biscotti before but I've had it at coffee shops and I never like it. I love this! I can't believe how good this is, even without dipping it. It's not as hard as other biscotti. I didn't have any trouble cutting it. One thing I did change was only use 1/2 cup hazelnuts and like everyone said, I doubled the cinnamon. I made this for a Christmas gift for my Mother-in-law and I'll definitely make it again!

Pecan Snack

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2008
These were so good! I had some pecans to use up from making gifts for Christmas, so I made these. I could eat the whole batch in one sitting! So easy too! My 2-year-old helped me make them.

Candied Apples II

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2007
Very good! I didn't have any problem with it hardening too fast or it being too sticky. If it's too sticky it wasn't done boiling. Also I would recommend adding the food coloring before it's done. You're on a time-crunch at that point. This was actually really fun to make! I had a blast dropping the candy into water and then eating the crunchy strings. This will be a family tradition! Thanks!

All-Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2007
Absolutely incredible! I couldn't believe how good this was! And it was so easy! This will be a new family tradition for us. I've never made apple butter before. It made the house smell great. It cooks down more than I thought it would and I started to get concerned with how dark it was getting, but it turned out perfect and I had nothing to worry about. Used Golden Delicious that we had just picked from the orchard.

Roll-Out Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2007
These were fantastic! I saw a lot of people didn't use the lemon extract though...seriously, use it! That made them so good! I also did the glaze. It was so much fun and it was really good. I just used a regular children's paintbrush. I love the fact that this doesn't have to be chilled. This is a great recipe to use with kids because you're not on a time crunch to cut them out. This is a new family favorite! Thanks!

Joan's Famous Mondel Brodt

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2007
Incredible!!! These are so good, so much better than I expected. You gotta use the orange extract. Totally made it. I drizzled them with white chocolate afterwards. I will be making these again and again...maybe tonight!

Palmiers

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2008
These were good but they came out kind of hard. They seriously didn't need 12 then 5 mintues. Also, I'm a little embarassed that I forgot the parchment paper and sprayed it instead with cooking spray. Don't do this!! I realized my mistake as smoke was pouring out of my oven. I made the second pan with the parchment paper and they were much better! Still a bit hard though, I'd turn down the temp and the time.

Baked Salmon II

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2007
Well, I have mixed reviews for this recipe. I don't really like salmon but I tried it anyway. I'm trying to be healthy and eat it, but no luck. I couldn't stomach more than one bite. My husband on the other hand, loved it! He ate his and mine and was very impressed. It looked good and I really wanted to like it. Oh well. :-)

Good recipe. It was a little dry so I added more mayo. Other than that it was good.

Anna's German Dumplings

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2006
I destroyed these! I didn't look at the number of servings and since I've never made dumplings before, I didn't know how big they'd get! I needed maybe 1/4 of what the recipe makes. I added them to chicken soup, followed the recipe, and it turned into a burnt chicken..slop. So just remember that this recipe makes a lot!

Penne with Pink Vodka Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2007
I would give this a 5 star, except that the mozzarella clumped up pretty bad when I mixed the sauce with the pasta. The taste was wonderful though!!! I'm actually going to make this again tonight, but I'm going to use parmesan cheese instead. I also added a few handfuls of chopped fresh spinach to easy my conscience. It was a very nice addition to the flavor, texture, and appearance. Like other reviews, I cooked down the tomatoes more (I used fresh), substituted olive oil for the butter and used less heavy cream. Easy recipe to play with!

Amazing Italian Lemon Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2007
This was pretty good, although the sauce was very greasy. And I even cut out some of the butter. Make sure not to cook the sauce too hot. Mine congealed. Also, to cut down on the fat content, I used turkey bacon, which worked wonderfully. I also added peas instead of capers and it was good. Overall, good but cruising for a heart attack.
