Polvorones de Canele (Cinnamon Cookies)

Reviewed: May 23, 2012
These are awesome. My go to recipe whenever my daughter needs to bring something to Spanish class. I always double the recipe. I also use a small cookie scoop to make sure the size is consistent. Make 1/2 or even 1/4 of the amount of sugar called for to roll the cookies in. I also put the dough in the frig in between batches because the warm butter gets pretty soft.

Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2012
Wonderful Irish soda bread recipe. This is more like a cake than the super dense scone-like bread you might be used to. The caraway seeds while authentic are overwhelming to me and I will eliminate them next time. I also plumped the raisins before using. Put raisins in hot water for 5 minutes. Then strain and dry slightly before adding to the dry ingredients. I didn't have a skillet so I made it in a Calphalon 9" cake pan. It came out perfect. I made a second recipe and put it in 4 smaller baking dishes so I could give them to neighbors. They baked nicely but the crust did not come out as beautifully in a ceramic dish as it did in the Calphalon.

A great base to tweak to your liking. I think next time I will use a Greek vinaigrette.. less onion... more feta... as it is it is still pretty great!

Wow! We found the horseradish very overwhelming. My step father loved them and polished way too many off but no one else would touch them. If you love horseradish or you have nasal congestion this is the recipe for you.

Yummy! Super easy. The thyme is an awesome addition I never would have thought of. JENNLOREN's tips help a great deal. Plan for extra cooking time. It seems mine always takes a little longer than expected. This is pretty fool proof and an awesome way to wow carnivores at your next dinner party!! Thanks Chef Mike!!!

Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2011
Update: 6/11 I used wine (as the recipe calls for) for the first time. HUGE difference. The flavor is much more rounded. Don't pass on the vino!! Family favorite! The only difference is I cook the tortellini seperately and once I serve it into bowls I pour the soup over the noodles. Then the noodles don"t sop up the broth or get mushy. I always cook a double batch and freeze some. Although my family fights over who gets the leftovers so sometimes it doesn't make it to the freezer. :).

Marinated Flank Steak

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2011
Great base for your own marinade creation. We like to use flank steak for fajitas and so I needed to alter this recipe a bit. My alterations include 1/4 cup oil, 1/4 cup basalmic vinegar, 1/8 cup soy sauce, extra garlic. Otherwise the soy sauce is overwhelming and the marinade tastes asian. Whole family loves it with this changes and this is my go to marinade for flank steak on the grill.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2011
Delish! Mashed the bananas and increased the amount used. Did not melt butter but softened to room temp. Use mixer to cream butter and sugar together. Also added bananas to the mixer to get them mashed and incorporated well. Everyone loved it!

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2011
Tried this based on the amazing reviews. Don't know what the fuss is about. I found it rather bland. Reviewers suggested adding more spices. It is VERY dense which reviewers also warn about. Sorry. I will keep looking for a banana bread recipe.

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2011
Super easy to make. I like that it didn't have that overtly italian oregano flovor. Worth trying a few cuts of beef to find your favorite. The meat is on the bland side but once you add the toasted butter rolls and provolone it was delish! Next time I will doctor it up a bit more. There will definitely be a next time.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2011
Awesome! Made this for a house full on NYE. It got rave reviews. This will be the way I make lasagna and even home made sauce from now on. As per other reviewers I made a couple of changes. The sauces is very meat heavy so unless you want a 1/2 pound of meat per serving you should consider revise the amounts, or doubling the tomatoes, etc. I also think the recipe as is a little heavy on the fennel. The sausage I used was very tasty and already had a fair amount of fennel so unless you love the flavor go lightly the first time. Thanks for the great recipe! Now all my neighbors think my recent trip to Italy turned me into a great cook! ;)

Rich and Simple French Onion Soup

This might be a jumping off point but I wouldn't call it a complete recipe. I found it was very bland and lacked depth. I thought the thyme was an odd addition to the overall flavor. I will keep looking for the right soup recipe for me. Hope you have better luck.

Blue Cheese Beef Tenderloin

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
I have to admit that I just thought this was average. The marinade might have better served a cheaper cut of meat. The sauce thicken quickly after removing from the heat so it wasn't really a sauce. The flavors were fine but with the cost of tenderloin I expected something that didn't mask the quality of the meat. This wasn't horrible.. I won't try this again. Sorry!

These are awesome little breakfast bundles! You can substitute egg beaters, reduced fat crescent rolls, turkey bacon, and lite cheese. Then they come in around 100 calories. Gotta love that. My kids reheat them the nest morning, if any are left.
