Eggplant with Garlic Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2010
I give it four stars buy my husband gives it 5. I followed the recipe except I used clam sauce instead of oyster sauce because I did not have any oyster sauce on hand. Still turned out great. Will make again.

Tasty Sesame Tilapia

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
I followed recipe exactly and the flavor wasn't as appealing to me. The sesame oil overpowered all other flavors. Will probably not make again.

My husband really enjoyed it. I used parmegiano regiano and cooked fish as recipe called for. I have a hard time cooking fish but this turned out delicious.

Heavenly Angel Food Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2007
I too used liquid egg whites in a carton. I used 1/2 sugar and 1/2 splenda for 1 cup of regular sugar that recipe calls for. The cake was a bit more dense than I was expecting but it was still quite good. Maybe next time I will beat it a bit longer. The batter flattened quite a bit when I folded in the flour/sugar mixture.Perhaps beating it longer will help this, but in reality it probably did not matter that it flattened since it turned out fine. This is my first time trying angel food cake so for first time it was not bad. Will probably make again. Thanks

Quinoa Tabbouleh

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2007
First time cooking quinoa. I did not even know it existed until my sister in law served it for dinner recently. I made substitutions only because that is what I had handy. First... I cooked my quinoa in vegetable buillon, used dried parsley and basil, I did not have green onion so used regular white onion, no lemon so used lime, no carrots. Still turned out quite tasty. Thanks for the recipe.

Almond-Crusted Halibut Crystal Symphony

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2007
I thought it tasted good but what doesn't with heavy cream and butter. I only gave it four stars because I thought it was fussy to make. Too many dirty dishes. I also do not like the amount of calories and fat in the recipe.

Sweet and Spicy Stir Fry with Chicken and Broccoli

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2007
Very very good. Instead of chicken I used tofu. Some people added brown sugar but I thought the sweetness was just perfect. I used hoisin sauce so I guess if you do not have any on hand you might need the sugar other than that I do not think it needs it. I used chili garlic as another reader suggested and served with basmati rice. Delicious

Colonial Brown Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2007
I needed a quick bread since I ran out of bread and did not want to wait for yeast to rise. Instead of the all purpose flour I used ground oatmeal to make it healthy. The texture and density is more like a muffin not bread and the flavor is okay. I will probably decrease the sugar and add dried fruit next time to make it even healthier. I also used the milk and vinegar since I did not have any buttermilk on hand.

Whole Wheat Honey Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2007
Delicious! I used 1 and 1/8 cups of skim milk for the fluid because I did not have dry milk powder and someone suggested using liquid milk not realizing they only meant 1/8 of a cup. Apparently it does not matter because my bread turned out delicious. I do not have breadmaker so warmed the milk to 130 degrees and added to dry ingredients. Let rise for 1 hour then punched down and let rise for another hour. I do not have a loaf pan so I shaped like a loaf and baked on cookie sheet for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. It turned out great. This is my first time ever making whole wheat bread and will make again.

Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2007
I finally got around to making these and can say that they are worth the effort. I took the advise of another reviewer and copied a local thai restaurant and added a few more fillings. I added cilantro, mint, cucumber, carrot, lettuce, rice noodles, fried tofu, alfalfa sprouts. Delicious. I did not have much trouble rolling the rice wrappers as I followed others advice and wet them for only a second. They will soften more as time goes by. I served with hoisin/peanut butter sauce, and 2 other dipping sauces from other spring roll recipes I got from this website. Will make again they do require quite a bit of effort but well worth it. YUMMY!
