Fruity Angel Food Trifle

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2008
I'm sure this recipe is delish 'as written' but I changed up just a couple things. I had thought I had bought vanilla pudding, but when I went to prepare it, it was sugar free 'cheesecake' flavor. So I had to use it. Yummmmy! I also whipped 8 oz cream cheese and 1/4 cup sugar. Folded the cream cheese into pudding and folded in about 1 cup of the cool whip. I used 1 and a half loaves of store bought angel food cake too. I made this for a 4th of July party and used only fresh strawberries and since the store was out of fresh blueberries, I had to use frozen, but turned out fine. It was a very pretty red/white/blue dish. Everyone liked it, but careful, it's super-rich.

Slow Cooker London Broil

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2009
I make this recipe every season, but I use beef stew meat and add potatoes, carrots and corn to the pot. Or substitute browned ground beef. Makes an awesome and easy thick beef stew. Serve with buttermilk biscuits. Can cook stew in oven for about an hour and a half at 300.

Mom's Easy Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2011
Perfect Creamed Dried Beef. To make it 5 stars, I use real dried beef from the grocer's deli. Not every grocery carries it and it's about $11 a pound (and you don't need that much), but really, it makes the dish. I'm in NE and found real dried beef at Super Saver and Baker's supermarkets. Also, try your local meat locker, they should have it too.

Blueberry Snack Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
These were just okay for me. I used a lemon cake mix but otherwise followed recipe exactly. They are very pretty but thin, hard to get out of the pan without slopping around. I brought them for a bake sale and they sold out, and one person asked for the recipe. But I probably wont make again.

Chicken Crunch

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
This recipe was just ok for me. I probably wont make it again. Was really blahh. I added some frozen peas to the mix and still didn't give it great taste. I have other chicken casserole recipes similar to this that my family likes and I will stick with. Sorry wasn't a hit for me.

Peanut Butter Fudge Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
These are awesome bars. I followed the recipe exactly, but I felt guilty using all of the chocolate mixture, there was so much. So I saved over a half cup to use as an ice cream topper, since it is actual fudge. The bars are very rich, so cut into small triangles. I brought them to work to share and they were a hit. Good Christmas/holiday treat too. This reminds me a lot of a recipe I've made called Chocolate Revel Bars, but this is so much easier, using the cake mix makes it quick.

Easy Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2008
This dessert is extremely easy to prepare and my family liked it. The only change I made is I used a big can of sliced peaches (15.5 oz), diced them and cooked them on stove top will all the juice from the can. I added some cinnamon and nutmeg to the peaches. I kept all other ingredients/measurements the same and baked it in a 9x13 pyrex dish. I baked it for the time stated and thought it looked like it was still runny when done, but I took it out anyway. The juice that looks runny thickens up after cooling down. I will be making this dish again, many times. We didn't have ice cream to serve it with, was great on it's own.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2008
I have been searching for years for a chocolate chip cookie recipe that is soft and that my family loves. I have tried so many but my search has finally ended. I love these cookies and so does my family. I made the recipe exactly as written for ingredients but halved it. The cookies turn out great, they spread perfectly, not alot, but enough that they don't stay in 'balls'. And they stay soft for days. I think the pudding mix is a great add in for cookies. I would recommend this recipe to anyone who is searching for a good chocolate chip cookie. Thanks for submitting!

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2008
This recipe was easy, inexpensive and tasted delish. The only change I made is that I used only about 4 oz cream cheese. I served it over hot cooked noodles and with a side of cooked frozen sweet corn. Could have added veggies to chicken mixture and served over biscuits for a mock-chicken pot pie. I'll be making this again, I'm sure.

Cola Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2011
Made this last night according to directions, added onion powder and garlic. It was just okay. Was very heavy on the 'ketchup taste'. I probably wont make again. I have a recipe for cola pork roast that uses cola, cream of mushroom and onion soup mix and it's way better than this. Sorry.

Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
I followed this recipe pretty much to the tee, except, I did not make the sauce and I used half white/brown sugar and added a dash of nutmeg and cinnamon. I made it in the 8x8 pan in the water bath. It turned out very very watery. I almost threw it out. I salvaged most of it by removing some of the pudding from the dish and 'draining' the water by spooning it out by hand. It tasted fine, except I did have some bites that were very eggy. I was looking for a custard type bread pudding, like a decadent one I had in a restraunt. This would have been close had it not been for the eggy tastes and the watery consistency. The taste was good, we still ate it. But I will probably be trying other recipes until I get find the perfect one. Sorry.

King Ranch Chicken Casserole I

Reviewed: May 1, 2010
This recipoe was just ok for us. I used cream of celery instead of mushroom based on another re view. Maybe that was the problem. I still had to top my serving with salsa, lettuce and sour cream in order to enjoy it. Probably wont make again. Sorry.

Cheesecake Topped Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
Mmmm!! I omitted the cornstarch in the cream cheese mix and added choc chips to brownie batter. I did not frost. I made one batch with the 'fudgy' recipe from the box (2 eggs) and one batch with the 'cake like' recipe (3 eggs). I prefer the 'fudgy' version. Made them for a bake sale and sold out right away. Lots of compliments. Cheap and Easy!!

Best Ziti Ever

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2008
This is a really tasty and easy dish. Yes, be prepared to have a lot of ziti to finish off. Might take a few days. The only change I made is I used 1/2 lb sweet Italian sausage and 1/2 lb ground beef. Only because I thought my picky girls and husband would notice the sausage and complain but the didn't even know the difference. I am making this again soon for a houseful of guests. Serve with garlic bread and a salad and that's all you need.

Sassy Chicken Enchilada Dip

Reviewed: May 28, 2008
I am going to give the recipe four stars even though it didn't go over quite as well as I thought it would. And I too thought that it sounded delish based on reading the ingredients. I made this dip for an office pot luck. The recipe makes a ton and I went home with a bunch left over. I did make a couple changes, so that might be why it wasn't a hit. First of all, I used canned chicken instead of fresh, because I was rushed. I added about a half cup sour cream to it. The Rotel tomatoes I used were 'mild' and I should have used 'medium' for a little extra kick. I also added a few teaspoons taco seasoning mix because I thought it wasn't spicy enough. But it was the perfect 'dip' consistency. I used the leftovers as an enchilada filling, but it was just too rich, I couldn't eat it. I will give this recipe another try - but will follow the recipe as written in hopes of getting stellar results. Thanks.

Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue

Reviewed: May 28, 2008
This recipe was good, but not "great". Even though we had leftovers the next day, I still had a half breast of chicken left over that no one really wanted. I used KC Masterpiece bbq sauce. The crock pot filled up with so much watery bbq sauce, I had to empty it and add another batch of sauce, dressing and brown sugar mixture. I guess I was hoping for something where the sauce sticks to the chicken more. I'll keep looking.

Beer Bread I

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2011
Just made this tonight. I was trying to recreate Tastefully Simples Beer Bread. And after reading other reviews I increased the sugar to 1/3 cup. However, it just wasn't quite as sweet at TS. Close but no cigar. I will try it again and increase sugar a little more. It's still good, but doesn't taste quite right with TS spinach dip.

Slider-Style Mini Burgers

Reviewed: May 1, 2010
These were tasty little sammys. My husband liked them and he's picky about his burgers. I didn't add pickle, but still was tasty. A little on the sweet side with using the sweet hawaiian rolls. I might try the savory butter rolls next time.
