Pizza with a Twist!

I ran across this recipe and knew I had to try it!
Cauliflower Crust Pizza

I had a lot of leftover ingredients that needed to be used including cauliflower. I thought I could outsmart my family - surprisingly it doesn't taste that much life cauliflower. A friend on facebook gave me the tip of making it really thin - so we have a thin crust pizza :) I patted it down really flat.

Then baked it at a high temp.
That actually looks like a pizza crust doesn't it? Next, I added a semi-homemade pizza sauce. I started with a jar of spaghetti sauce that was leftover in the fridge. Added some tomato paste, spices, garlic and cooked it until it was thick. Then I sliced a tomato that was hanging around all by its lonesome.

Next, I caramelized part of a red onion, stalk of celery and about half of a green bell pepper. Added more to my side of the pizza. Hubby isn't too keen on bell pepper.
His side got part of a leftover hamburger patty from last night. While mine got some delish herbed goat cheese.

Top his with more mozz than my side.
Out of the oven. . . . I didn't broil mine like the recipe calls for, just put it back in the 450 oven. (I'm really bad at broiling).

My plate . . .
The fella's plate . . .
This was a huge hit and I'll be making it a lot!

Thanks Kelly! Our local market has cauliflower on sale this week so I'll definitely give this recipe a whirl. I have some other recipes I'll be trying also.

Well isn't that something...it actually looks pretty tasty...who'd ever thought? Isn't that the nice thing about pizza, each person can pick their favorite toppings? Love the step by step photos.

The recipe said 2 servings but your pizza looks big, more like 4 servings. Did you double the recipe? I would love to give this a try.

this looks like a really neat idea! i checked out the blog link and i'm wondering about the texture, since many comments were about the middle being too soft. yours looked nice and crisp throughout. any advice? i am almost curious enough to try it. :)

YUM! I saw the FB post and looked at the recipe and thought "who cares if they(W2's) eat it, that looks too good!" Your pictures absolutely look awesome! Herbed goat cheese, double yum!

Oh and thanks for the tip about skipping the broiling. Last time I broiled something, it turned to charcoal!

I know Cat Hill, I have never mastered the broiler!

zeebee - we did eat ours with a fork. The very outside was crispy, but toward the middle it was soft.

I'm a bad grown up who hates to eat veggies... But this I just might have to try! I'm always looking for ways to fool myself into eating something healthy. If nothing else, my boyfriend loves pizza and cauliflower so I'm sure he'd eat it. Thanks!

This looks sooo good! I had just done a blob about getting more veggies into the diet, and this is perfect timing! We love pizza, and we love cauliflower, and this is going to be on the menu soon. Beautiful pics, too!

How do you hold the cauliflower together? Did I miss something? Sure looks good. I'm going to try it if I can figure out how to keep the base together. thanks for sharing.

Feb. 7, 2012 5:43 pm
It's a mix of egg, cheese & cauliflower then I patted it down really flat. Cook it at a high heat & it crisps up all together. Although, I will admit the middle was soft.

it looks great, SD. I never thought of using cauliflower in other foods until I started reading on AR. We eat them straight up raw with dip, cooked lightly with cheese sauce, in a stir fry or soup.

So going to give this a try! Your pizza looks delicious! We love cauliflower and it is so inexpensive in the summer. I make a quick lunch kinda similar--- > http://allrecipes.com/PersonalRecipe/62593729/Jans-Cauliflower-Pizza-Bake/Detail.aspx
