The start to my 2012 mantle

I like to consider myself extremely frugal. When I put up all of the Christmas *stuff* from the mantle, I decided to do something new. I went rummaging from the rest of the house. The flower painting is one of my favorites. I bought it from the New Beginnings Shelter. They are sort of like Goodwill. I was shocked at the $2.95 price tag. It's beautiful!
The Egyptian looking water jar was free. My church was cleaning out & throwing it away.

This vintage candy jar I found on ebay for $3.00 plus shipping. For now, it has wine corks in it. The small red jars I also bought on ebay thinking they were *wine glasses* turns out the joke was on me when I received them. They are avon - and way too small for wine glasses, but I love them anyway!

Hubbies' guitars make great decoration pieces.

A few Christmas decorations from outdoors still need to be put up. This pineapple candle holder is also a Goodwill find & one of my favs! Happy 2012 all, let's make it a good one!

Isn't it amazing fun to come across something that you KNOW will be just perfect in a certain nook in your house? And when you buy it at a Salv Army, Habitat for Humanity Repurpose Store, Goodwill, or St. Vinnie's, you know you are helping a good cause, too. I follow a few other blogs of folks who come across some amazing finds like you have found. Such fun. Thanks for sharing!!

Every year I go through the same thing....the Christmas stuff comes down and I feel an emptiness. I love the GREAT finds. I have been giving away rather than collecting but that doesn't stop me from looking!

You've got some great finds there, SD. I also like the way you extended the mantle with some countertop. Clever!

Thanks everyone! I've already messed with it again. I'm very much a *hack* decorator.

lucylove - good eye! That is actually wood that the previous owner's son made to use for her grandkids stockings. At Christmas you screw eyehooks underneath. They used to take it off & store it, but I ended up liking it & using it year round. The mantle w/o it feels too small.

Is that a Guild or a 335? Not the dobro, the semi on the bottom.

335 - Epiphone Sheraton.

Kelly, I'm pretty sure I'm not in Texas right now. :) .........moving right along, I love what you did. A very eclectic look with different things and you pulled it all together. Nice job.
