Banana Cream Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2012
I almost didn't make this recipe because there are so many conflicting comments on how it should be made. So, I just went ahead with the recipe as is, although I did substitute flour for cornstarch. I think that the baking helps the bananas break down. We LOVED it, and I will be making it again this week for thanksgiving!

Slow Cooker Tender and Yummy Round Steak

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2008
This is how I have made pot roast for years, except I use beef broth instead of water, and I do occasionally add beef gravy to the mix. So good! And then, use the leftovers for soup--even better!!

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
wow, I've never made anything from scratch and been this happy with the results. DELICIOUS! Definitely make the crumb topping. I have a "sweet mix" that I used instead of cinnamon--it's cinnamon and sugar and vanilla. Other than, followed to a t. So good!

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2008
This was really good, and I'm not a chili fan ordinarily. I did everything by the recipe, except I added some chopped "hot pepper" (my grocery store did not have them labeled clearly), and my boyfriend put in an indeterminate amount of Texas Pete. It was yum!

Kris' Lentil Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2009
My husband and I both enjoyed this. The only things I did differently was I used 1/2 lb of sausage and 1/2 lb of bacon, because that was what I had, and then I shook a bit of smokey sweet pepper into the soup and a dash of red pepper vinegar. YUMMMMMM and so filling

Pie Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2010
I had to cook it longer so the middle of the cake was cooked. I did 20 minutes, then 8 more minutes with foil on top

Broccoli and Sausage Cavatelli

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2009
This was really good. Light but still flavorful. Made a few changes: used some basil flavored olive oil; added a chicken breast; and, cooked sausage and chicken with onion, garlic, oil, and pepper. Was really good!

Picante Chicken Stew

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2008
This was really really good. After reading reviews that it was a little thing, I used a combination of water and actual picante sauce, instead of just water. Next time I will put some beans in the mix.

Chicken and Dumplings III

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2008
Really really good, and easy. I cooked the chicken in one cup of broth (that's all I had!) and two cups water, with celery and potatoes. I added onion flakes and some garlic to the water, and a bit of pepper. I used cream of chicken and cream of celery, and added some lima beans to the mix when I put the chicken back in, just to try to get some more veggies in there. It was delish!!

Red Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2011
this was sooooo good. wow. thanks so much for the recipe. I only changed it up a bit, but only because of necessity (this was all I had): i used half ground beef and half kielbasa, and I used half red kidney beans and half white kidney beans. Oh, and I omitted the cheese, because I don't have any. I don't think it would need cheese. absolutely delicious!!

South of the Border Chicken Tortilla Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2009
This was soooooo good! I had to make some changes because I didn't have all the stuff. So: ground turkey instead of chicken, half can cream of mushroom plus half can cheddar cheese soup instead of sour cream, salsa instead of tomatoes. And then I didn't have black beans so I spread some refried beans on the top before adding the cheese. Also, on the advice of the other review, I skipped the cinnamon. I noticed that I also forgot the salt and pepper after it was done, but I don't think that hurt it. This was really good, really a lot of food!

Chicken Scarpariello

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2010
This was tasty, but not robust. I needed to add more butter and garlic than the recipe called for, and I did put garlic pepper on the chicken before I coated it with flour. I beat the chicken with my meat tenderizer to make it fairly flat, which helped it cook quickly. With the leftovers, I added a laughing cow wedge of cheese before reheating, and then stirred it all around. Yum!!

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2010
Really good and hubby loved them too! Had the issue where they got really flat, but it didn't hurt anything. I also made a batch without jelly, and put chocolate frosting on them after baking, and the cookie wasn't as good. I think the glaze helps a lot!

Chicken Breasts with Lime Sauce

Reviewed: May 22, 2011
I would give this 5 stars the way I made it. After reading all the reviews, I changed things up a bit. I cooked the chicken as according to the recipe, although I seasoned with pepper before breading. For the sauce: first, I deglazed the pan (there were burnt parts of the breading, and NOTHING to drain), and got that clean. Then, I added about 1/3 cup chicken broth and 3 tablespoons of butter, got that boiling and reduced it a bit. Then added 2 tablespoons of lime juice (not from a lime), then chives, and the dill. Prior to making the sauce, I mixed some flour with some water, made about a tablespoon's worth of the flour paste to thicken the sauce. I added that last, and let it all boil for like a minute. Then, I put the chicken back in and served. Nice thick TASTY sauce. Not too limey. The dill flavor came out nicely. It all blended SO well. YUM! Will definitely make again.
