Best Lemonade Ever

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2014
This is one fine lemonade to usher in the beginning of summer. The ratios of sugar, to water, to lemon are perfect and illicit just the right amount of pucker to your lips. As another had suggested, the use of a microwave and ice cubes can hurry you on to Lemonirvana, Nuke 1 cup of water for 1 minute. Add sugar to irradiated water. Swirl into a syrupy translucent mixture. Pour remaining water, ice, and lemon juice to jug. Stir in syrup. Jug-a-lug. A note on the mysteries of ice: place ice into your measuring cup before adding the water to ensure an accurate measurement.

Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2012
Thank you for the amazing pecan pie. My southern wife complimented me, saying it was pretty good, to be made by a northern boy. I followed the baking instructions exactly, but covered the edge of the crust with foil and then removed it during the last 15 minutes of baking. Also, followed the advice of others to mix the sugars with the butter first, than vanilla, milk, (room temp. whisked)eggs, flour, and pecans. Made for a nice smooth mix. Don't forget to smatter the top with pecan halves. For the crust I used 1/2 cup of virgin coconut oil, 1/2 tsp of salt, 1 1/3 cups of flour, and 3 tblsp of cold water. Made for a tender flakey crust packed full of good fat that complimented the filling well.

Homemade Flour Tortillas

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2012
Amazing tortillas! Forgoing the extravagance of a press, we rolled the dough out with a thick wooden dowel and cooked them on an iron skillet. Mixing the flour with your fingers is a great stress reliever and works far better than trying to use a mixer. We used extra virgin coconut oil instead of lard, which has the same consistency as lard (below 76 degrees), but is packed full of good LDL's. There was no coconut taste, so we have found a new substitute for lard in tortillas. These tortillas were far better and cheaper than store bought, which are filled with unpronounceable preservatives and hydrogenated oils.

Delicious Apple Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2011
Perfect ratio of apples to liquid. Resulted in just the right consistency of sauce. Used four granny smith, and 1/2 cup of apple juice instead of water. Also, tossed in a handful of cranberries and only 1 tblsp of brown sugar. Followed the advice of others and chopping the apples rather than shredding them. Mashed them up with a potato masher.

Potato Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2011
Good potato pancake recipe. Reminiscent of my mom's recipe handed down by her mother from Germany. Just need to get the ratio of potato to egg right, otherwise they end up like hash browns. Don't forget to make apple sauce for them. Found a great recipe for the sauce on here called, "Delicious Apple Sauce".

Ginger Beef Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2011
Recollections of this culinary dream are causing me salivate in anticipation of making this again. Thank you for the recipe! We were unable to obtain plum sauce and I did not have the fortitude to make the sauce from scratch, so we substituted sweet & sour sauce. I agree with other reviewers that peanut oil and a marinade complete the recipe.

Texas Sheet Cake VI

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2007
I slowly simmered both the frosting and cocoa/coffee till a gentle boil. Then immediatly removed from the burner. Both the cake and frosting were perfect and the best chocolate cake I've made to date. The frosting is especially good as was the cake. I halved this recipe, to sample it, but will double it next time!

German Potato Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2006
These pancakes are the same as the German potatoe pancakes my mom learned from her mom, who was from Germany. Great recipe, but the picture could be better.
