Dubliner and Guinness®

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2008
This recipe is so interesting! We love Dubliner and we're beer people so I had to try this recipe! It has a good robust flavor, my only complaint is the bitterness that comes through a bit but I guess you would like that if you love Guinness, and actually the bitterness reminds me of some very sharp cheeses I've had before. I think this would be a five star for many, so I might make it again depending on the crowd. It definately has to sit in the fridge for a while to get really good and it goes a very long way because you only need a little bit on each bite of pretzel. Thanks for the new and interesting recipe!

Best Chicken Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2008
This was ok for us. It is a good start with some unique ingredients but for me the flavor just wasn't there. After tasting the salad, I added alot of cracked pepper and a bit more salt. I also like the option of putting in cut-up hard boiled eggs instead of avacados as suggested by another reviewer and next time will do that and add some cooked, chopped bacon. It needs some more seasonings in the dressing, the ranch just disappears into the noodles leaving very little flavor. All in all, I was happy to have found this recipe, I enjoyed many of the ingredients, I will just tweak it next time. Thanks for a new recipe!

Mid-Summer Italian Bread Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2008
Wow this was amazing! So different and so simple! To avoid sogginess I made sure my bread was all the way dried out (like crutons) and kept all the prepared ingredients separate until the moment we sat down to the table. Just dumped them all together at the last moment, tossed and served. The only change I made was to omit the cucumber and add some chopped fresh mushrooms, flaked tuna, salt and fresh cracked pepper. My favorite part was the whole leaves of basil. The flavors went beautifully and I will make this often!

Cocoa Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2008
These are yummy! Used chocolate chips instead of raisins though. And for a healthier, non-chocolate version, we've also made them omitting 1/2 cup butter, cocoa and white sugar.

World's Best Pasta Sauce!

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2008
This was my first time making my own sauce and I loved it! My fridge and pantry were quite bare, but this was a great way to use up those wierd things like tomatoe paste that I buy and never use! Thanks for the recipe!

Spinach Dip with Water Chestnuts

I'm in love with this dip!!! Followed recipe exactly and put in a hollowed out round loaf of bread with the peices around the bowl to scoop up the dip. Just amazing... mmm mmm... love it!

Chicken and Corn Chili

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2008
The recipe as stated was pretty good, but I ended up making a couple changes which made it much more to our liking. I felt it was way too much chicken to not enough veggies so I replaced two chicken breasts with chopped carrots, bell peppers, celery and onion. Also, after tasting it with just the salsa and spices, I ended up adding a jar of spaghetti sauce and a can of black beans so it didn't taste like, well, salsa! I didn't think my two young kids would like it that strong. I had to let it cook a little longer with the lid off to not be so watery. It's a great concept and I know I will use this idea again, thank you!

Butter Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2008
Absolutely delicious! My only complaints about the recipe are that one, it is not really a butter frosting, not a butter flavor at all, and two, the "48 servings" only covered about 18 cupcakes with a normal amount of frosting :( But the taste is just too good to give it any less stars. I've even replaced 1/2 cup powdered sugar with 1/2 cup cocoa and it turns out to be a nice light chocolate flavor, yummy!

All-Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
The BEST apple butter I have ever had! My sister-in-law gave me a big bag of small tart green apples from her tree so this recipe came to mind thanks to a past recommendation from "TristansMom". The flavor is strong, sweet, slightly spicey and tart at the same time, and just the smell of it cooking all day is heavenly. Will definately make this again, thank you! P.S. Took Tristansmom's advice to put it hot on vanilla ice cream, add some caramel sauce and WOW!!!

Stuffed Celery

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2008
I'm giving this 3 stars to be fair, but I really can't stand olives so this spread was just at least stomachable to me, but those at my party who were brave enough to try it said they liked it. There were still lots left on the plate at the end of the night though, so not a winner for me. I found it super easy to put the spread in a ziplock baggie, seal it, snip of the corner, and squeeze the spread onto each peice that way. If you hate olives though, I don't recommend this recipe...

Dilly Romaine Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2008
Wonderful taste and so easy to make. I added some cooked chicken lightly seasoned with lemon pepper to the salad to make it a main course salad, and also added chopped mushrooms, green peppers and some fresh grated parm. It's fabulous!

Festive Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2008
Very good, though I must admit I didn't have time to drain the whey off of the yogurt. I just used less yogurt and it was a very nice dessert-y fruit salad (like ambrosia). I also added some fresh mango and kiwis, yum!

Thit Bo Xao Dau

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2008
I made this recipe exactly as stated and it was blah with very little flavor. However, after some doctoring it turned out not so bad. I ended up adding orange zest, orange juice, good honey, salt, more soy sauce and a bit of teryaki sauce and we liked it better. What I did like about the recipe was the easy to follow cooking instructions, the meat was tender and not at all over-cooked, but I will look for a better recipe next time as far as seasonings go.

Chicken Alfredo

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
This was quite good, but I really prefer the "Quick and Easy Alfredo" from this site. I chose this recipe because it didn't call for parmesan cheese which I was out of, but this sauce was just too cream cheesey, and even though the quick and easy alfredo uses cream cheese, it just has a much more true alfredo taste. Still good though, I'd make it again.

Chocolate Sandwich Cookies II

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
We looooved these! The taste is a more sophisticated version of the old sandwich cookie which appeals to both kids and adults and so easy to make! I really liked the suggestion to put the icing in a ziplock baggie, snip the corner and pipe the icing onto one cookie. This made filling the sandwich very fast, tidy and the cookie looks better too! I will make these again and again!

Mexican Shepherd's Pie

Pretty good and very easy. If I make this again I will try adding some black beans to the corn and maybe chopped bell peppers to the meat, I also won't omit the cheese and olives (it did say optional:). Thanks for the interesting recipe!

MAKE THIS!!! Fabulous! Only used 1 tbsp of oil for lower fat and didn't even notice!!! I've always been a three been salad fan and was sure it couldn't get any better than that, but this is the best bean salad I've ever had! Will make again and again, thanks so much for the recipe!

Seafood Pasta Salad

Good but plain. After tasting it I added some cajun seasoning and a new spice mix in my spice rack called chef's essence... kinda like old bay maybe? It tasted much better after doctoring it.
