I could live in my kitchen! I have had a business Maine Gourmet for years which has consisted of specialty chocolates, brittles, carmels, toffee and the like. I have kinda slowed down on the outside sales and promoting.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make breads, appetizers and deserts. Cook alot of comfort foods. I love going through recipe books, magazines and online recipe sites.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mollasse cookies used to be every Christmas decorated with frostings until I started covering them in chocolate and people got tasting, then they got made year round.

My cooking tragedies
Prob lots over the years but the one that follows me is I don't make an especially good chocolate chip cookie unless they are like 6x6 or larger in size. I don't know why but my regular size just aren't as good or nice looking. To me that's a tragedy it's a simple thing.

Candied Almonds
I tried this recipe and followed exactly they burnt before the liquid was close to being gone. I cooked them on 4 for heat, I have an electric stove. I make alot of brittles,and hard candies so I am not sure what went wrong. I did stand and stir them with a wooden spoon the entire time. I rated in between bec of my problems

My Favorite Sugar Cookies
I am not sure why so many people had trouble with this recipe. I followed it but mixed my shortening, & sugar then put in my eggs, mixed, and then the rest of the ingredients only adding flour a cup at a time. Because some said it was dry I added an extra tbsp of milk and this dough was perfect for a roll out cookie. I only left it in the fridge for 2 hours bec I was short on time. If you were mixing the dough and see it was getting crumbly why would you continue to add flour? I stopped at 3 cups. The taste for a plain sugar cookie is comparable to other recipes. I also used butter flavored crisco. I think you should give this recipe a second chance.

Turtles(R) Cookies II
The only thing I did was put my nuts in the dough that egg wash rolling. I only had walnuts today so thats what I used, and I had homemade carmel so used that. The indents were ok but who needs an indent spread the whole top with carmel then chocolate! I also used my tiny ice cream scoop to scoop the dough.
