Pork Chops for the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2013
I don't like pork chops very much, but the sauce was really good on rice. Seems like it would taste good with chicken, too. My husband said it wasn't his favorite only because he doesn't prefer pork chops cooked with soy sauce/Asian cuisine, but my daughter thought it was pretty good. I might try it again with chicken.

Chicken Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2013
Loved it! Was told it tasted just as good as our favorite Chinese restaurant's similar dish. I'm glad I bothered to get the fresh ginger...that made it extra delicious!

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2013
Very good...everyone liked it. I will make more gravy next time though...not quite enough. Cornstarch works well....I stirred it into the broth before adding it it to the pan. That and gluten free bread crumbs made it perfect for those with dietary restrictions.

Chicken Tortilla Soup V

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2013
I didn't have any salsa so I just added a can of diced tomatoes, extra chili powder, and some cayenne pepper. It's very simple if you already have leftover chicken. I just cut it up, put it in the pot with some oil, cumin (way more than the recipe called for) and onion, added chicken broth (also way more than asked for) and corn. Done putting it all together in about 10 minutes...now just wait for the corn to cook. If I had more time I would have found more things to add, like black beans or black olives. Not bad for a last minute meal.

Big Bad Burgers

excellent hamburgers even without the sugar, bacon and cheese. I used gluten free bread crumbs and it made absolutely no difference in the taste. even those on a special diet can enjoy these.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2012
I like this pumpkin bread, but not quite as much as the kind I usually make that is from my Betty Crocker cookbook. I couldn't taste the pumpkin in it as much as I would have liked. I did use my own cooked down pumpkin puree, added a smidge extra cinnamon and used one cup of applesauce instead of the oil to lessen the amount of fat. After I sampled it, I realized that (silly me) I forgot to add the water the recipe called for. It still seems very moist and it baked for the same amount of time, so maybe the applesauce instead of the oil accounted for that. Still very good and I would make it again...next time adding the water to see if that makes a difference.

Sarah's Salsa

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2012
This recipe was exactly what I was looking for. I needed an easy recipe that could be ready quickly. It tastes really good even without the cilantro, which I didn't have on hand. I used lime because that's what I had, and added cumin because I love it in anything that is even remotely a Mexican cuisine. Thanks!

Oven Roasted Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2012
so easy to throw together and everyone loves it! I leave out the dill weed because it seems like it wouldn't taste good with the other herbs, but maybe I'll try it some day just to see if there's something to it.

PHILADELPHIA New York Cheesecake III

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2012
I never made a cheesecake before today because I always had the impression that it would be really hard to do, but l was wrong. It was easy! (The only reason I made it this time was because the store didn't have any plain cheesecakes, so I had no choice!) This recipe made a little more than would fit in the 9" springform pan, so I baked the extra in a small pie plate, which got taste tested by us all. Very good cake! The cake with strawberries on top is delicious :)

Sweetheart Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2012
I gave this recipe four stars because they taste so good, but mine turned out crumbly and didn't stay together well. I wondered if I had done something wrong and checked again to make sure I didn't use too much flour...but I had followed the recipe correctly. I won't be using this recipe for cookie exchanges, but the flavor is very good so I may use it again for eating at home.

German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2011
I followed the advice of some of reviewers and cut back on the amount of sugar (1 cup white sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar), increased the amount of cinnamon to 3 t, and used applesauce instead of oil. I also used a bundt pan and didn't bother with any frosting or 10X sugar on top. I really like this cake alot. I'm sure it would have turned out very good if I followed the recipe as is, as well, I was just trying to cut down on some of the sugar and oil as a personal preference and I love lots of cinnamon. Thanks for the recipe!

Dutch Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2011
I usually read some of the reviews before making a new recipe but I didn't have time to do that this time. I realized afterward that I should have either started the carrots before the potatoes or sliced them thinner. I guess when you're in a hurry you don't think of some things. These potatoes still turned out fine and I will make them again when I'm not in a hurry. A little more salt would be good too, but you can always add that to your own serving.

Salisbury Steak Deluxe

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2011
Very good recipe. It'll be even better next time...I was in a hurry and thought it said to put 1/4 of the soup mixture with the meat instead of 1/4 cup. It was still quite tasty in spite of my mistake. I was glad I didn't leave out the horseradish as some of the reviewers suggested. It gave it a nice zing.

Easy Garlic Broiled Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2011
Very easy to make and absolutely delicious! I'm too cheap to use much butter so I used about half olive oil. It wasn't greasy at all, and the juices were so good to dip the chicken in. Usually when I make chicken breasts they turn out dry and people accuse me of trying to choke them, but this recipes made moist chicken breasts. Everyone was happy. I will be making this recipe alot! Good for sandwiches and on salads, too. Thank you for this yummy, quick and easy chicken recipe!

Easy Mexican Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2011
It was really hot when I made this so I didn't want to turn on the oven...so I made it on the stove top. Very good. I used a can of refried beans instead of chili beans because I needed to use it up, and didn't use the cheese simply because I didn't have much left. Instead of layering everything we dipped the chips and added sour cream on individual servings according to taste. This was very good :) Great for a hot summer day when you don't want to eat a lot.

The only reason I gave this recipe 2 stars was in case I did something wrong. My chicken turned out kind of gross. I don't want to use this recipe again.

No-Knead Artisan Style Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
Whenever I make this bread it disappears like magic! I do the same as another reviewer...1 1/4 t salt and 1/4 t yeast and 1 1/2 cup water. I don't bother with using a towel or anything. As soon as 18 or so hours is up, I dump the dough on a floured board, wait for the dutch oven to get really hot and just dump the dough in there! No matter how it has looked when I put it in the dutch oven, it looks and tastes fantastic when it comes out of the oven.

Mom's Paprika Chicken with Potatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
it was ok. I increased the paprika since one of the posts said the amount in the recipe was wrong. We still didn't think it was all that.
