Corn Fritters

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
I usually like to make a recipe as its written, but I didn't have any flour. I followed the recipe exactly, but I used a cup of corn muffin mix instead of the flour. It was very tasty. I cooked it on the stove in some oil instead of the deep fryer(only cause I didn't want to clean it..lol). They were very good. Next time I will try it with the flour, but the corn muffin mix gave it a nice crunch and nice taste.

Vanilla Milkshake I

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2009
I halved the recipe because I was only making it for me. I mixed it for a long time, but it never thickened like a milkshake is supposed to..the taste was good, but the consistency of a milkshake was not present. I don't know how long you are supposed to mix it, but I did it for almost 5 minutes, and it didn't change the thickness.

Byrdhouse Blistered Cherry Tomatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2009
I would never think to eat tomatoes like this. Someone gave me a bunch of them right out of the garden, and other than salad, I didn't know what else to do with them. These were amazing!!!!!Thanks for such a simple and good recipe, def a keeper.

Daddy's Fried Corn and Onions

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2009
I needed a side dish, and this sounded simple enough. I didn't have fresh corn so I used can. This was awesome. Next time,I'll make sure I have fresh. I did add some cherry tomatoes to it like another viewer did. Goes to show, you don't need a lot to make something taste so good.

Meatloaf Muffins

Reviewed: May 19, 2009
I didn't change the recipe at all, I just changed the way I cooked it. I know they are muffins, but I didn't want it soaking in grease, so instead of muffins, I made meatballs. I put in a pan on a grate with a little water on the bottom..I baked them at 350 for 30 minutes,I got about 60 meatballs, and no grease at all.

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
I made this and I "definitely", loved it. I usually don't follow a recipe when I make mine but I "definitely" will again with this winner. I did however add an egg to the meatball mixture..Great recipe.

Tangy Slow Cooker Pork Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2008
How could anyone say this was bland? That is beyond me. I made this today, using a 3 pound bone-in pork roast. The meat fell right off the bone. Cooked it in the crockpot for 8 hours on low..wow! It almost tastes like a saurbraten gravy, the onions are awesome. I thickened the gravy with flour/water, and place the meat back in the gravy. Going to serve it with mashed potatoes. I figured after seeing 513 reviews, most of them being positive this was the one to make. Definatly going to make again. Now, I'm going to pass this one on to my brother, he loves to cook, and will appreciate this recipe.

Beer Batter

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2008
It was easy to make, and I had all ingredients on hand. It needed some salt though, and if you didn't eat the food right away, it got soggy. Other than that it was just alright. I added extra garlic powder and pepper, but it was still bland. I think I'll stick to the one I buy in the box.

Marty's Loosemeat Sandwich

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2008
I always wanted to know what would make Roseanne open up a loosemeat sandwich shop on her show..now I know. This was good! I loved the way the beer made my house smell. I didn't have ground beef, so I used a pound of ground turkey instead. It took about 30 minutes on medium for the liquid to cook down. I put it on hamburger buns with mayo like someone suggested, wish I had the pickles though, bet that would have been good. It is kind of salty, so next time I will cut it by half. Thanks for a nice easy recipe that my kids, 3 and 6, even ate!!!

Easy to Remember Pie Crust

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2008
This was so simple. I didn't have butter but used margarine instead. I didn't have any problems with rolling at all as others have, and it wasn't fragile or greasy, also how others have suggested. I doubled it to make a top and bottom crust for the Sunday's apple pie recipe on this site.

Grilled Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2008
The idea of grilling this sandwich was appealing. I also base what I'm going to make on the reviews, and all the reviews were good. The sandwich was good, but the warm bananas killed it for me. I liked the way the bread and the peanut butter came together.

Sunday's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 29, 2008
I never made a homemade pie before, but I had apples that no one was eating. And of course I looked no further than this recipe, because as weird as it sounds, my name is actually Sunday. This was awesome. The pie was gone in 2 days.

Mom's Country Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2007
I needed a gravy for my dinner, and had about 10 minutes before my husband came home from work. I found this recipe, read some of the reviews, and had everything I needed to make it.It was extremly easy, and very good. My husband and our 2 kids loved it. I'm going to use it when I make breakfast, but put some sausage in it, bet it will be really good.

Oven-Fried Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2007
This was an awesome recipe. I only had chicken stuffing mix. I put it in my processor to make it finer, where it would cover better. I had 6 chops. I used 3 tablespoons of melted butter, but also sprayed the pan with cooking spray, cooked it at 425 for 12 minutes each side. Before flipping, I sprayed the top of the chops with the cooking spray as well. I didn't have any sticking whatsoever, and all the crumbs stayed on and completly covered the chops. I didn't have any problems with the crumbs as some of the other reviewers. If you are going to make more than the suggested 4 chops, I would go ahead and process 2 boxes of stuffing mix,and use as you go, so they all get covered evenly, and you don't run out. You can store what you don't use in a container in your fridge. They were so juicy and tasty. One more thing..my mom hated to throw anything out, so she would take the breadcrumbs and the egg mixture after breading chicken, and mix it together, roll them into little balls and fry them in a little bit of oil on the stove. We called them poor man's meatballs. I have to do that everytime I bread something, my kids call them breadballs, and they love them.

Banana Loaf Cake I

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2007
I had banannas that needed to be used before the weekend was over. I was looking for a simple recipe with ingredients I had on hand, and found this. Wrote it down on paper, and made it. I made muffins instead of a loaf because I don't own a loaf pan. I doubled the recipe exactly as written, but used 8 banannas instead. I got exactly 24 muffins. Baked the pans one at a time, for 20 minutes. They came out perfect. Tasted one, and yummy. When I came back to this site just now to rate them, I realized I didn't write down the vanilla..But the good thing is, I wasn't missing anything on taste without it. I'm going to cover half with cream cheese frosting, and leave the others plain. They are good just the way they are.

Golden Potato Rounds

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2007
I needed to cook my potatoes before they went bad,but wanted something simple and different. I have used cornflake coating on chicken, but never on potatos. At first the cornflakes didn't stick very well, but once I got the hang of it, they turned out really good. I didn't let anyone know they had cornflakes on them till my family ate them all(I always get that "eww" response when they know I cooked with cereal)They couldn't get enough and asked me to make them again. I had to look through 10 pages of potato recipes to find this one at the very end..I guess they do save the best for last..lol

Squash Casserole II

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2007
I asked my husband what he wanted for Father's day dinner, and he said squash casserole. He's from Arkansas, I'm from New York..so needless to say, I had a "are you kidding me?" moment. Having nothing to compare the taste to, I was reluctant to make it. But then realized I could go to my favorite website and find one that would come close to what Granny used to make. After reading every single recipe, and all the reviews, this one sounded the best. Wow, is all I got to say. I have never had this before. Never even bought squash till yesterday. I thought it was totally amazing. Very very tasty. My 5 yr old even liked it. I followed the recipe exactly as written, but didn't use the whole bunch of onions..(What is a bunch anyway? is it the whole bag,and what if my bunch was bigger than one used in this recipe? would I then be using too much?..yea, I was going nutty. So I knocked it down to half, and it came out awesome. Thanks for a wonderful recipe, and for saving Father's day!

Scalloped Corn and Broccoli

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2007
Based on other reviews, I left out the sugar, and only used 1/2 teaspoon of salt. It was very good. I also used a cup of shredded chedder cheese, becuase we love a lot of cheese with our broccoli. I did, however have to cook it for the full hour. At first I was only going to bake it for 45 minutes..but it looked too watery on top when I took it out, so I cooked it the remaining 15 minutes. My 3 yr old son had a bite, rubbed his belly and said.."That's good"..so its a winner.
