I am the youngest of 6 kids, grew up in an Irish Catholic home and had an eclectic mix of friends. I love basic home cooking, no fancy ingredients for me. I love to cook for everyone and anyone and my motto is definintely..'the more the merrier' and 'there's always more than enough food for all'.
My favorite things to cook
Gravy(not sauce), in Philly it's always gravy. I love all the meats added to the gravy and all of the sides that go with it. I like to cook soups, stews and chili. My mother was an awesome cook and I like to make most of the things she was known for and hope that she lives on thru these dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Big roasts and potatoes of every kind. Everyone gathering before and after the meal in the kitchen. I feel the kitchen is the heart of the home and my fondest memories are of all of my family and extended family all gathered in a small kitchen. It never mattered how many people or how small the house, as long as we were together and surrounded by food, it was all good.
My cooking triumphs
Mastering my mom's meals, many of which I had to do since she passed away when I was only 30 years old and never got to get her guidance on a lot of meals.
My cooking tragedies
I once used bulbs of garlic in a recipe instead of cloves of garlic...you can imagine how nasty that was.. Also, while baking a cake I accidently poured the whole bundt pan into the hot oven! What a mess :-)
