Roasted Garlic Lemon Broccoli

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2010
The lemon gives it the needed kick. Lemon pepper seasoning is what I used to use, and it just wasn't quite enough to make frozen broccoli more flavorful.

Crispy Chocolate Squares

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2009
Soooo easy to make! The frosting is wholly unnecessary; they are plenty sweet without it. I skipped the peanuts and instead used extra rice cereal to make these go a bit further.

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2008
Tasted great but fell even though I added extra salt as another reviewer suggested. I will try adding a half cup of flour next time to see if it makes a difference.

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
Fantastic! Did not change a thing except using regular salt dissolved in the water instead of kosher. Tastes exactly like the pretzels you'd find in a mall. No butter needed!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
Do not make as-is...read at least the first few reviews first! Don't bother with margarine, it's way too sticky. This is messy dough but the cookies always taste great.

No Roll Pie Crust I

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
Oily, but it works (although it's much better for quiche than pie). It is very quick to make though!

Crab and Swiss Quiche

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
Have made this a few times and it is very filling. However, this recipe is not perfect as-is so be sure to read through the reviews and use some suggestions there on how to make it better.

Sweet Mustard Chicken Bake

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
Dries out too much in the oven. This is better on the grill. Also, it is lacking spices - try some paprika & thyme and substitute regular mustard for some of the dijon for more variety. There are better honey mustard chicken recipes out there.

Honey Oatmeal Bread II

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
Awfully crumbly and quite dry even though I waited the recommended time for each step. I guess I am just not cut out for breadmaking. The honey was tasty though.

Sonflower Suzi's Pasta Perfect

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
Good base recipe but it never seems to turn out quite how I want it to. I will keep trying to adjust the garlic/butter/oil/onion quantities to perfect it though. Add a little chicken for protein to make it into a good main dish.

Golden Peach Pork Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
I can't remember if I used chicken or pork to make this, but I do remember how amazing the sauce was. I did not use tomato sauce, vinegar, or cloves. We had biscuits with it to sop up the leftover sauce. Yum.

Grilled Yellow Squash

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
Thanks to this recipe, yellow squash is my new favorite vegetable. I just throw in garlic powder instead of cloves and don't bother with the grilling so there's less cleaning involved. Salt and pepper are not really necessary.

Grilled Brown Sugar Pork Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
Hubby said these were the best pork chops I ever made, and I have made some darn good pork chops. Left out a few things I didn't have like cornstarch and ginger, and used teriyaki instead of soy. Also did not grill, but probably will next time. This recipe is a keeper!

Baking Powder Biscuits I

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
This is an amazing recipe! They are super easy to make and turn out delicious. I substitute margarine for half the shortening and add a bit of sugar, no more than 1/4 cup. Hubby loves them especially when I pair them with something like peachy chicken to sop up the juice. We love them plain too.

Carrot Cake III

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2007
Made this twice so far using a lot of the most commonly suggested modifications...WOW this is a good moist carrot cake! It always turns out huge but it falls (I live near Denver so it could be due to the elevation). It is hard enough to get a lid or plastic wrap on it as is (toothpicks didn't help a lot) so I'm kind of glad that it falls...besides, you can't tell once the frosting's on it. I usually get a lot of comments on how good this is. It's a lot of work but definitely worth it.

Mango Squares

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2007
Couldn't find a dessert recipe using fresh mangos. I had two mangos that were starting to get overripe so I took a chance and used them in this recipe instead of the dried mango. The bars were actually quite good but not very mango-y like I was hoping. If I make this again I'll try a stronger-tasting fruit...strawberry, pineapple, kiwi? I liked the extra gooeyness from the fresh fruit even though it took longer to bake.

Crab Quiche I

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2007
Added an extra egg as several reviewers suggested as well as my own favorite seasonings: garlic salt, paprika, chili powder. Threw in a bit of chili sauce too. This turned out ok but not spectacular and it took 10 min. longer than recipe says to cook. DO NOT DICE THE SWISS - that was the biggest mistake I made in the recipe. Shredding would create a much better texture. I made a simple crust (whisk 1/4 cup ice water + 1/4 cup canola oil, then add 1/2 tsp salt + 1 cup flour) that complemented the quiche perfectly. Much cheaper than store bought and really easy and quick!

Ambrosia Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2007
I leave out walnuts and use the fruit cocktail with the extra cherries instead of maraschino. Proportions seem to be off in this recipe - I probably use about half the whipped cream and only a dash of cinnamon. I usually throw in a splash of red food coloring to make this dish a little more fun. None of my friends seem to like it as much as I do though.

Tantalizingly Tangy Meatloaf

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2007
Used apricot-pineapple preserves and added some green onion. I can't stand meatloaf but this was not too bad, except that it did not cook evenly - outsides were too done, middle was still pink. Hubby thought it was pretty good but he didn't like it as leftovers so some got thrown away.
