About this Cook
My cooking tragedies
The first time I cooked by myself was when I was six years old. I decided to surprise my mom by making pancakes. I had just learned to read and figured I could follow a recipe because I had watched my mom cook so much. I used rock salt like she did when she added salt to boiling water. I also used yogurt (at her suggestion - I ended up needing a little help) because we were out of milk. I went outside to where my mom was weeding the tulips and told her the pancakes we really thick and didn't seem quite right. She responded that the batter was thicker because we were using yogurt instead of milk. I went back in but couldn't figure out how to make cookie dough consistency act like pancake batter. When I finally gave up she came in the house and took over. We ate the mess I had made and have never forgotten it.
