Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2002
I don't eat turkey, but coooked this for the big family Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone loved this, even my mainly vegetarian niece who tried a little bit. My sister said the meat was so tender it melted in her mouth and hubby was able to use the cooking liquid to make a killer gravy! Instead of dried minced onion, I threw in some freshly minced shallots and garlic then stuffed it with the Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry stuffing. What a perfect pair!

Stuffed Mushrooms with Swiss Cheese

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2003
I just loved this! Used shallots instead of onions, and we didn't have swiss cheese so I put slices of Brie on top to melt over the mushrooms. Amazing!

Wonton Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2002
This was very good! I went to two different grocery stores and neither had wonton wrappers. Therefore, I bought a package of egg roll wrappers and cut them in half. The noodles were thicker than I like, but the filling was still yummy. The trick to preventing the wontons from becoming a gloppy mess is to cook them in boiling water first, then putting them in the broth. I also had some left over bok choy from the stir fry that I was also making so threw that in the soup during the last 2 minutes of cooking. Wonderful!

Avocado Dip II

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2002
I have always made guacamole for snacking but with the family over for Thanksgiving, I decided to try this as an appetizer. Well, goodbye guac cause this just kicked!! I loved this so much as did my family, even 80 year old Dad. Served with those new scoop style tortilla chips, there was none left! Thank you, Holly and thank you, Christy! :D

Easy Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2006
I usually prefer my hummus to be more grainy, and I'd never had it with roasted red peppers before, but I was in the mood for something different. Well, I'm glad that this was the recipe I picked! It was very good with home-baked pita chips. I only had Realemon juice on hand, so I cut down on the listed amount and it was fine. For sure something I would make for a party.

Joelle's Famous Hot Crab and Artichoke Dip

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2002
This was a 10 star dish. Served it as an appetizer for Thanksgiving dinner and the whole family dug in. Loved the bread bowl, but was also great with those new scoop style tortilla chips (next time I'll get the reduced salt ones tho'). Definitely a keeper, will make again and again!

Tasty Buns

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2002
I cannot believe how easy this was to make!!! Forgot to buy dinner rolls one night and found this recipe, what a lifesaver! Hubby thought they were perfect and daughter gobbled 2 up for breakfast! (Toasted w/ butter) We made another batch a couple of nights ago for leftover chicken sandwiches. Great recipe for an all purpose bun!

Tina's Avocado Salsa

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2002
This was okay. I think I shouldn't have used the super chunky type salsa as that totally detracted from the taste and texture of the avocado, the one ingredient that I wanted to experience when I made this dish.

Herb Rubbed Sirloin Tip Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2006
Fantastic. Hubby kept commenting on how perfect it was with every bite! I ate much more in one sitting that I wouldn't have believed before! I was just bummed that we didn't have any horseradish, lol. This is my number one roasting recipe from now on!

Simple Country Ribs

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2004
Awesome recipe! Terrific for when you don't have 8 hours to marinate the ribs. Threw in a whole bunch of garlic cloves instead of using onions and put the ribs in the oven at 375 while reducing the sauce at high heat and frequently basting the ribs with. The ribs turned out saucy, tender, and so tasty! Was perfect with steamed mini new potatoes and mixed vegetables. Even my four year old asked for more!

Warm Brussels Sprout, Bacon and Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2002
This was awesome! Next time though, I will omit the caraway seeds, as the smell totally turns me off. But even with them, once I tasted, they were soooo good!

Lemon Chicken Dijon

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2006
Well, it was tender and edible. Made this dish exactly as the recipe says, and it smelled good while cooking, but otherwise, we found it very bland. The meat had no taste, even though it was tender and juicy. I'll not be making this again.

Luscious Spinach Artichoke Dip

Reviewed: May 31, 2004
This was amazing! Since this was for a party, I doubled the recipe, only leaving out the extra 1/4 cup mayonnaise. The guests just raved about it and we couldn't stop eating it! Fantastic served with pitas cut into little triangles as well as nacho/tortilla chips. One guest commented that it would also be great with leeks, which I might try next time, just to be adventurous.

Fluffy French Toast

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2002
This was alright, but I didn't think it was amazing. The first two slices I did burnt a little, but then the rest came out perfect. Hubby and daughter liked them.

Guacamole

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2002
Good stuff! I love coriander (aka cilantro) so it was a treat to have this ingredient included. The second time I made this, I threw in some chopped jalapeno pepper for extra punch...yum!

Broiled Herb Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2002
This was a good dish for a busy weekday supper. Hubby was so surprised how fast I got dinner on the table last night. You have to watch the temperature on your oven though as mine tends to be higher than most and halfway through I had to turn the temp down a bit to prevent everything from burning. I also followed fellow reviewers' tips on poking holes in the chicken prior to pouring the butter on top...thank goodness! It made quite the difference. Served it with steamed parisienne potatoes and warm dinner rolls.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2002
Personally, this dish didn't thrill me much. I marinated in the buttermilk for about 2 hours; added about 1/3 cup of cornmeal as per another reviewer; but still found the coating falling off while frying plus it really should have been seasoned more. I didn't make the gravy as we weren't having mashed or any kind of potatoes, which I'm kind of glad as it was just too much work for the results. However, hubby said he thought it was alright. I don't think I'll be making this again.

Grilled Salmon Kyoto

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2007
Excellent. Didn't have green onions or ginger, and used fresh orange juice, not concentrate and then broiled the salmon, occasionally basting with the thickened sauce. My daughter (who doesn't eat anything that doesn't start with a "Mc") just loved it! So this recipe will be a repeat in our house, for sure.

Thighs on Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2006
Wonderful! I followed another reviewers suggestion and cooked with parboiled brown rice. Sprinkled lots of lemon pepper and parsley on top before putting in the oven. Hubby was the first to try it and raved over how good it tasted. When I finally got around to eating dinner, I was very pleased with how it turned out. Even my niece and her new boyfriend, who were visiting, complimented me on this dish!
