Burrito Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2000
Very good, but I'd suggest placing a double layer of torts between the bean mixture layers (the single layers got a little soggy for my taste). ALSO - I like it HOT, so used diced jalapenos instead (for those of you that can handle it!)

Rum Sauce

good stuff on bread pudding. I used a rum/brandy combo (and a little extra), followed recipe otherwise. mmm! will make again.

Bread Pudding II

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2007
excellent flavor, altho I prefer a more custardy bread pudding - still looking for the PERFECT recipe for my taste! I used other suggestions, 1/2 white sugar, 1/2 brown, also 3 eggs - I also baked with cover on, to save the raisins from burning - mmm!

Cabbage Roll Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2007
one of my favorite recipes from this site so far, and I've been using allrecipes for 6+ years! I've made this a number of times - it's not pretty, but it sure tastes good!! the only thing I do differently is to add extra garlic & some red pepper flakes (I like it spicy).

Banana Pudding Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2007
this one was a hit in my friends circle. I changed it up a bit, added more bananas (probably 1.5 cup), and decided it needed cinnamon (approx 1T). I also stirred walnuts INTO the mix and baked it in a decorative bundt. instead of frosting or icing, I just dusted confectioners sugar - it was beautiful and WONDERFUL!!

Favorite Corn Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2007
I used butter for the fat & used a glass pan w/non-stick spray. it baked up with a nice crispy crust - good stuff! I'll add a little extra sugar next time, but otherwise the taste & consistency was just what I was looking for.

Lemon Blueberry Drop Scones

Reviewed: May 21, 2007
couldn't go with 5 stars, but it might have been my own fault! I forgot the butter, don't know how - it was sitting right there waiting to be stirred in! the texture was a little different, but they were still nummy. I did as a previous rater, used non-fat vanilla yogurt instead of lemon, and substituted vanilla for the lemon juice - mmm! I'm gonna make them with lemon & raspberries next time - and WITH BUTTER!

Extra Easy Hummus

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2007
nummy stuff! I love how simple this one is, and no special/expensive ingredients! I did add a little extra garlic (I'm a fiend), one jalapeno fresh from the garden, a dash of red pepper & a little lemon juice. MMM! the one thing I would do differently is to add less of the juice back into the mix & maybe save out a couple tablespoons of the beans to add later for a little more "chunk" - I prefer my hummus a little less fluid - but the flavor is right on! thanks for this one, it will be a regular in my home!

Feta Cheese Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
I really like these, and so does my roommate who doesn't like anything. We're not big bread eaters, so had a nice fresh green salad with Italian vinegrette - mmm! Flavorful & healthy, right up my alley! Thanks for sharing.

Braised Lemon Pheasant

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2008
excellent recipe! it's really nice to have an alternative way with pheasant. I took everyone's advice & added extra lemon juice, and I also included extra garlic (my usual). can't wait to try this with chicken, as suggested by another commenter.

Chocolate Turtle Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2008
this cake was too sweet for me (I rarely eat sweets), but it got raves reviews from co-workers & friends. I added a melted chocolate chip layer on top & drizzled some melted caramels, then sprinkled some pecans - very pretty! make sure there's lots of milk or strong black coffee around!

Chile Verde II

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2008
like others, I change a recipe to suit my taste, so can't really rate "the recipe" as published.. however, with the few changes I made - this was probably the best green chile I've ever cooked (and I've made a lot over the years). I really didn't like the idea of the yellow bell pepper.. omitted it completely. I chose to use a little potato as filler, and had a problem finding fresh jalapenos at my market this week, so just used sorranos and poblanos. I like it hot, so I also added like 1T pepper flakes. LOVE the idea of processing the tomatillos before cooking, never did it that way before - but will always do it that way now! :) excellent ideas in this recipe - thanx for sharing!

Mediterranean Medley Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2008
Very good! Friends & family loved it. I used all the suggested veggies, minus the carrots, plus green bell pepper because I had 1/2 of one to use. I also couldn't imagine this dish (any really) without garlic.. so I added some of that & doubled the balsamic. MMM!

Sophie's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2008
MMM - loved this one! Mom brings me tons of zuch all summer, and I'm always looking for new ideas to use it up. I followed recipe, but must admit to adding more spices tho - a little ginger, a little nutmeg, and a dash of cloves. Big hit at family bbq last night, and roommate finished off the 2nd loaf this morning. So much for MY portion! :) Good thing it's zuch season.

German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2008
Followed recipe "as is" (not my style usually) - and it was a huge hit at family bbq last night. I had an influx of apples recently & tried 3 cake recipes in 4 days - this was BY FAR the best of the 3. I used a bundt pan & sugared, instead of flowered the pan - LOVED the crispy exterior paired with the moist, dense interior!! Highly recommended!

Oatmeal Cake II

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
I rarely make a recipe "as is" - and this one was no acception. I had to add a little nutmeg, probably 1/2 teaspoon, since it reminded me of my oatmeal cookie recipe (which of course has nutmeg). I'm also a major raisin fan, so took others' advice & doubled to 1 cup - I also plumped them w/some boiling water first. opted for an 8x8 cake (for home) + 9 cupcakes for the office folks. everyone raved. thank you for a good one, I'll be making it again, but will add a little more oatmeal next time - just not enough "presense" for my taste. mmm - yummy!

Zucchini Spice Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2008
very very good! and a hit with my friends. my first try was with a cup of plumped raisins - mmm! I'll be trying several other options; carrots next I think! it doesn't need it, but this would be a great cake with cram cheese frosting.

Peanut Butter Cookies VIII

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
I made these for a co-worker's birthday, in place of Chocolate Lovers Favorite Cake (try it if you haven't!), when I found out someone else brought a store-bought carrot cake! Everyone raved over the cookies, left the cake nearly untouched. :) I used chocolate cake, put in a tad extra peanut butter (everyone loves the stuff), and added chocolate/peanut butter swirled chips. I rolled them into small balls and just let them bake up fluffy - they were pretty, and tasty!

White Bean Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
REALLY good stuff - I'll be making this again. Of course I doctored, as I always do.. added a couple jalapenos (I like heat), more garlic, used frozen corn (don't do canned veggies) and threw in chopped fresh cilantro at the end of the cooking cycle. Unlike others, I didn't need to thicken with corn starch - instead I let the stew simmer much longer than recommended, for multiple reasons.. the flavors melded better and the sauce thickened naturally.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2008
Absolutely everyone loved these, me too. I used part oil & part unsweetened applesauce for the fat - and they were super moist. I filled 12 heaping regular muffins.. think I'll try it in a loaf or 8x8 cake pan w/walnuts next time!
