Garlic Cheese Biscuits

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2007
These were so good. Funny story, our power went off when these were baking & I didn't know what to do, so I threw the cookie sheet into the grill & finished baking them there! It worked and they were fantastic. Try the new mix from Bisquick - Heart Smart. At least make them a bit healthier!

Summer Bean Salad II

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2007
I loved this refreshing, healthy salad. I used frozen corn, lime rind & green onions - it wasn't a hit with my husband (meat & potatoes man) or children as much - but I thought it was worth making again, just for myself!

Strawberry Spinach Salad I

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2007
Used less sugar, balsamic raspberry vinegar & tossed just before serving. A nice & simple salad...

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2007
A little extra work without a breadmaker, but very delicious! I do not agree with some of the other reviewers about doubling the frosting. It was WAY too much that way and too rich. I would have preferred the original frosting recipe. Oh well, next time!

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2007
I needed a new meatball recipe & stumbled upon this one...I was lazy and used crushed up saltine crackers (about 15-16 of them) instead of the breadcrumbs. I used 2 jars of pasta sauce, because that is what I had & will try the sauce recipe another time. We all loved the texture & flavor of the meatballs cooked in the sauce & very easy to make! Love it!

Amazing Pecan Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2007
Loved the suggestion to bake in a bundt pan with the topping in the middle. I dusted with powdered sugar and it was lovely to look at & delicious. No need to double the nut/butter/sugar mixture. Make sure to butter & flour your bundt pan for a perfect cake!

Rhubarb Dream Bars

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2007
I was going to rate these lower, at first - but they improve with age...and with whipped or ice cream! I used the 2 cup sugar advice (thank you) and baked them 45 minutes. Also, I was a little short on rhubarb (only about 4 cups), but didn't seem to make a difference. I made these yesterday for a coffee I had this morning and everyone loved them. A nice change for rhubarb and will make again!

Shredded French Dip

Reviewed: May 24, 2007
I love French dips & this was a great recipe! I served the meat on toasted hoagie rolls (no cheese) and the family loved it - my husband ate until he could eat no more (there was none left!). This was so easy and yummy - I will use my fat separator next time to remove some more of the fat from the juice.

Marinated Grilled Shrimp

Reviewed: May 24, 2007
These shrimp had very good flavor. I used frozen shrimp that were too small, splurge and buy the larger shrimp. I also made an angelhair pasta to toss the extra marinade in and it had great flavor - just was not the right consistency. I should have made another sauce for the pasta, or just served atop a salad. So none of this is the recipes fault, just mine. All the same, it was a good dinner, just not what I would classify as "the best" - thus the 4 stars!

Mediterranean Puff Pastry Chicken

Reviewed: May 22, 2007
This chicken dish had very good flavor. I used Classico's sundried tomato pesto & it tasted great. I would highly recommend taking out ONE sheet of phyllo dough at a time. It dries out very quickly. Also, use a cooking spray (like Pam) to lightly coat the sheet of phyllo dough. It keeps it more pliable & sticks together without tearing. It is a lot less fattening than using butter (which by the way, is not in the recipe either, which confuses me - you have to use something to seal the dough with, it tears too easily and doesn't stick on its own).

Grandma's Five Cup Salad

Reviewed: May 16, 2007
I made this for my daughter's Hawaiian luau & the girls thought it was okay. Actually, some loved it & others were grossed out (but hey, they are 10 years old). I enjoyed it - I know my mom used to make this when I was little. I don't know if I will have a craving for this again anytime soon - it is very sweet - but it is tasty.

Luscious Slush Punch

Reviewed: May 16, 2007
I have made this punch several times and always hear rave reviews. I accidently scaled it to 25 servings, but still divided it for 2 punch bowls using 1 2-liter for each frozen "block" and it is the perfect sweetness. I can't imagine having it any sweeter, so I keep making it this way - so if you make the full recipe, you could divide it 4 ways! That's a lot of punch!!!

Chinese-Style Cheeseburgers

Reviewed: May 16, 2007
As written, I gave the recipe 4 stars - they didn't hold together that well & could have used a little more "punch" but were very good. I grilled them - flipping once. I will make this again & use only 1/2 cup chopped onion and maybe some chopped garlic or another Chinese-type spice. Made this with jasmine rice & a bagged "Asian Crunch" salad. We all enjoyed this dinner.

Cheesy Ham and Hash Brown Casserole

Reviewed: May 9, 2007
I love potato recipes & this one was so good! I used 2% milk mild cheddar & only 1/2 cup parmesan cheese - otherwise, it was delicious as written! I didn't measure my ham & probably added more than written - but I served it for dinner and wanted it to have enough substance. Add some green onions & some fresh ground pepper...Great comfort food!

Asian Coconut Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2007
My favorite Thai restaurant makes this as a dessert topped with fresh sliced mango. This was close to that recipe, with a lot of added sugar. Try 1/2 cup - I enjoyed it, but it was still missing something.

French Dip Sandwiches

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2007
This was a good meal, don't get me wrong, it was not the flavor that I was expecting. I love french dips and will try it again, maybe adding a can of French onion soup, or something! I scaled back on the spices, as others had suggested and used 1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce. It actually wasn't salty enough. Maybe try the full amount of reduced sodium soy next time. I served on toasted hoagie rolls. Just okay for me, dawg. Maybe it was my roast cut too - I used a leaner, more expensive cut. Maybe a fatty roast is what you need to make it fall-apart tender.

Pork Chops with Raspberry Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2007
This was a fast dinner and was loved by all. I would make it for company, for sure! I grilled 6 bone-in thinner pork chops (had to make a little extra of the rub) - they had great flavor! I reduced my sauce a little too much, so watch that - it does thicken up upon cooling. Also, had no need for the olive oil, but used some butter in the sauce. I made 1 1/2 times the original recipe for the sauce & would like to just double it next time. Oh, and the only different ingredient I used was my favorite vinegar: White Balsamic Raspberry Blush Vinegar - My favorite (I could drink it! Well, maybe not). Served with mashed potatoes & sauteed baby zucchini(so cute on the plate!) - an excellent dinner!

Breaded Chicken Fingers

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2007
Yum! I'm glad I made a double batch! The only mistake I made, was that I should have changed my oil half way through because it seemed to get "dirty" and the chicken didn't turn out as nice after the first few batches. I am new to frying though and probably need to read up on the best methods. I also double dipped half of my strips, and they were the best. We had a few strips left over, which were fought over the next day and eaten cold - I will make this again very soon!

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2007
Now this is worth 5 stars! It will be my meatloaf recipe from now on. Like many previous reviewers, I put the sauce on top of the meatloaf - I added some yellow mustard to the sauce for a little extra flavor and cut the milk back to 1/2 cup (don't know why) - One thing I did wrong: I accidently baked this with my oven set on convection. Don't do this - It would not get done in the middle. It was so strange...I ended up having to microwave some center peices so we could eat it! Still, delicious!

Easy, Cheesy Tortellini Bake

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2007
This was a good meal - I agree with some previous reviewers who said there was too much spinach! I do enjoy spinach, but even when I used a 20 ounce package of refrigerated tortellini (which by the way is the perfect amount of pasta with all of the sauce) - the spinach seemed to overwhelm. Overall, an easy & flavorful meal that I will make again...with half the spinach!
