Oriental Shrimp Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2009
This is a great soup recipe. My husband requested it again soon after we made it the first time. I had never worked with fresh ginger before, but read online to peel it with a spoon and it worked great. Very tasty combination!

Fruited Curry Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2008
awesome awesome recipe....I didn't have any apple so I left it out and I'm not a fan of onion so I didn't use those either, but there was still a lot of texture and flavor in the salad. I served it over a bed of spinach which worked great. Oh yea, I also used dried cranberries instead of golden raisins since that's what I had on hand. Try this recipe and don't be afraid to change it up some!

Restaurant-Style Taco Meat Seasoning

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2008
My husband and I love this recipe and use it every time we make tacos or nachos. Once you have all the spices on hand it is very simple to measure everything out...and probably more cost effective than the spice packs at the store. I substitute corn starch for the corn meal and it works fine. I also cut back on the salt a little bit too. Try it, you'll like it!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2007
This was AWESOME! My husband and I followed the recipe exactly and it was great. We will definitely be making this again. I even shared it with my grandma who had asked about a good pot pie recipe....she swears on making your own dough, but I'm not retired so I just used the refrigerated stuff.

Shrimp Chowder

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2007
This is a very good recipe. I followed some others advice and added garlic to the sauted onions and celery. I also used one pound of shrimp instead of 1/2 lb. I cooked the potatoes ahead of time, which is a must. I also added about 1/2 cup of chicken broth, since I had more shrimp. Finally, I added 1 T. of Old Bay Seasoning, which really made the dish. If you do nothing else, still add Old Bay! Oh yea, I used 1/3 less fat cream cheese (microwaved it 30 seconds to soften) and it still tasted great. It's great served with bread for dunking!

Scotcharoos

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2007
My husbands mom would make these when he was a kid and now we finally found the recipe, thanks so much! They turned out just like they used to...the only change is to use 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1 cup of butterscotch chips, otherwise you won't have enough to cover a 13x9 pan of the krispies.

Mrs. Fields Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2007
These cookies turned out great! I had another sugar cookie recipe that always turned out too crunchy, these were nice and soft, and even softer the next day (stored in tupperware). The key is to pull them from the oven before they get brown on the edges. I cooked mine for 15 minutes and then transfered them to a cooling rack right away. I didn't have a problem with the dough being too sticky, but I was pretty generous with the flour when I rolled it out.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2007
I made this recipe for company and it went over very well. There are a couple things I will do differently next time though. For the sauce layers, I would do closer to 2 cups of sauce instead of 1 1/2 cups. Not only did I have leftover sauce when I followed the recipe, I wish I had used it up. Another change to make would be to leave the foil on for 35 minutes, and then take it off for the last 15 minutes. The edges of the lasagna burned just a little bit and I think leaving the foil on longer would prevent that. Make sure you let the lasagna cool for at least 15 minutes. I took the advice of others and didn't cook the noodles, just soaked them for about 20 minutes in hot tap water. Overall it was a labor intensive recipe but well worth it - it made my guests ask for seconds and we loved having it as leftovers.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2007
This is a great recipe with modifications. I read a lot of reviews to figure out how to spice this up, and heres the combo of what I did: used one can cream of chicken, one can cream of celery; sprinkled the following spices onto the soup - season salt, pepper, paprika and parsley; I also added about 2 cloves of minced garlic into the soup mixture. After stirring all of that together, I mixed in a small bag of frozen stew vegetables (carrots, celery, potatoes, and onions). So, I layered the chicken, then the creamy soup and vegetable mixture. Finally, instead of water I used a can of chicken broth. Definitely shred the chicken before you add the biscuits/dumplings, it makes it a lot easier to serve. I used just one package of the "Grands" biscuits and cut each biscuit into fourths so they would cook through. After an hour on high the biscuits were fully cooked and the meal turned out awesome. My husband stopped mid-meal TWICE to tell me, "This is really good". And of course I loved it because it was super simple, and only one pot to clean!

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2007
This bread turned out great! It was moist, flavorful and just as easy as any other recipe I have tried. The cinnamon sugar you coat the baking pan with really makes it great, and a little different. I babysit for a 4 year old and a 6 year old and they went nuts over it. I did cut the recipe in half and still had a ton. I followed someone else's suggestion with half the recipe and used 2 eggs (instead of 1 1/2) and 4 bananas (instead of 3). I think this helped make the bread more moist and have a better consistency. I also divided up the batter into 5 mini loaf pans and baked them together for about 40 minutes. Great for sharing!

Classic Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2007
These are great peanut butter cookies...I only baked mine about 7 minutes then left them on the cookie sheet for about 3 minutes to finish cooking. I froze about half the dough per another reviewers advice, so hopefully they turn out as well the second time around. Thanks for a keeper :)

Three-Cheese Spaghetti Bake

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2007
This was a pretty good main dish...I made homemade spaghetti sauce (from allrecipes...kay's spaghetti and lasagna sauce) which I think made it a little more flavorful. It was also really good as cold leftovers...I'll be making this again soon.

Pesto Cheesy Chicken Rolls

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2007
These were very simple and tasted great. I made my own pesto sauce, and instead of pounding the chicken and rolling everything up I simple poured the pesto over trimmed chicken breasts, then sprinkled mozzarella cheese on top. I also let it marinate in the fridge overnight which kept the chicken nice and juicy. Thanks!

Parmesan Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2007
These were really, really easy to make and tasted great! I used others suggestions and flavored the butter/parmesan mix with some salt and pepper, as well as some dried parsley flakes. The potatoes had good flavor and the parmesan gave them a bit of a crunch on the one side. I even made them for my parents first dinner at my husband and I's new place and they were a hit. Thanks!

Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes

I was surprised how well these potatoes turned out, I thought the slow cooker would dry them out after 3 hours. They had a nice texture and a great flavor.

Garlic-Chive Mashed Potatoes

These potatoes were a nice change up from the usual mashed potatoes, and they weren't much harder to make. We served them with a nice steak and they complimented it very well. Thanks for the recipe!
