About this Cook
Recently retired and my wife kindly handed over the responsibility of cooking, probably to keep me a little busy.
My favorite things to cook
As a beginner, I've been excited to try new tastes and recipes and experimented with a slow cooker because we travel a fair bit. At home I love using the oven and have only recently bought a wok.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The kids had a list of 30 favourite meals stuck on the fridge and anytime we were short on ideas for what to cook, there was great fun in deciding which one it was going to be.
My cooking triumphs
There are always half a dozen recipes you grow up with as a family and some of these have turned out beautifully. Lamb Shanks are my altime favourite and a dish I call orange chicken legs, would run second. The orange part is actually tomato sauce.
My cooking tragedies
My first important dish was made with cherries over a piece of beef and although it sounded nice, my cooking skills did it no justice. Fortunately for me, my wife graciously ate it. I've now thrown the recipe out.

Chicken with Mushrooms, Prosciutto, and Cream Sauce
You've done a great job on this recipe. I was looking for a tasty dish to try for my first attempt with prosciutto and it was superb. The only thing I changed was the same as the advise from many others, mushrooms on the bottom of the dish along with an onion. I went a bit lighter on the garlic but that is a personal choice. I left the lid on the casserole dish and cooked it for 1.5 hours then, reduced the resultant liquid by half before adding the cream. Beautiful and thanks.

Slow-Cooked German Short Ribs
I followed the recipe as is and used my slow cooker but found the resulting meal a little greasy. I think the next time I try it, I might take the advise from other cooks and cool off the liquid overnight, then remove the fat layer from the top. The sauce was very nice.

Traditional Osso Buco
Beautiful. This is now a favourite for me. I made it as per the instructions and it worked out perfectly. First time I've actually had Osso Buco and definitely my first attempt at cooking it, and it wasn't hard to do. My wife loved it as well and we will do this one again.
