Slow Cooker Chicken Parisienne

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2011
Sorry, this recipe was a disappointment to us. I found this recipe to be lacking in flavor, even after adding a bit of sherry, parmesan, and extra mushrooms. The gravy looked curdled but I fixed that by whisking it smooth. I really wanted to like this after reading all the flattering reviews, but would not make this again.

Bill Clinton's Lemon Chess Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
This is my first ever chess pie, after having only read about them, and I was glad I tried this as I'm a huge lemon fan. This will not replace my fav, lemon meringue, but for those who enjoy lemony things, this is a delight.

Simply the best. Rolls out like a velvety dream. My only change is I use butter flavored shortening.

Jezebel Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
This is great! Sweet and spicy hot!! Will certainly cure what ails you! It makes your eyes water and your nose run. The only thing I did differently was to gently heat everything together before refrigerating before use. A KEEPER!

Sweet Potato Bread II

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
I had some dribs and drags left over in my fridge and went searching for a recipe to use them and discovered this TREASURE. So moist and flavorful. I shared a loaf with family members, and this gorgeous bread was loved and appreciated by all. Like other reviewers, I reduced the sugar to 2 cups (3 definitely would have been way too much!), and used 1/2 cup vegetable oil and 1/2 cup applesauce. This recipe is a KEEPER! Thank you for sharing.

Bourbon Whiskey BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
This has to be one of the best BBQ sauces ev-ah! I forgot to add the tomato paste, added 1/4 of a sweet red pepper because I had it and reduced the liquid smoke to 1 tablespoon as I'm not a bit fan of it. We found this to be a bit too vinegary for our tastes, so I eyeballed the addition of 1/4 to 1/2 cup molasses and the result was as good, if not better, than our favorite commercial sauce. This is "my" BBQ sauce. Kevin, this totally rocks our world. Thank you!!

Norwegian Christmas Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2010
I have an older male friend of Nowegian heritage and as a little Christmas surprise I made this for him. His warm blue eyes lit in delight when he saw the first loaf. He ate the first slice, asked for a 2nd, and then a 3rd. His beloved told me he NEVER goes back for 2nds on anything, and 3rds is unheard of. In his endearing, succinct way, he said "This is just like my grandmothers." I don't have a Norwegian grandmother, but I do know that we all enjoyed this wonderful bread. It is a tender bread, just the right amount of sweet, and fragrant and delicious with the cardamon. I also had a bit of difficulty with the bread rising. The 2nd rise took closer to 2 hrs, and it was still only filled about 3/4 of the height of the cake pan. I realized that this was not going to be a tall bread because of all the heavy fillings. The loaves rose further during baking, and the loaf was equal to the height of the cake pan, cresting a bit in the middle. Thank you so much, Deborah, for sharing this wonderful recipe. It is going into my keeper file!

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

An interesting recipe; I can see why folks would like it. Just not for us. I didn't care for the lime at all with the chicken.

Pretty good. Easy to make and has a great shelf life. I added a tablespoon of dried orange peel.

Simple Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2010
I was in a rush this morning and needed a basic pancake recipe, saw this recipe and decided to try it as there are only the two of us and this recipe halved so easily. Like others, I found the texture of these pancakes to be a little rubbery but the flavor is good. I did not find the batter to be runny. I grind my own salt so eyeballed the amount, but I'm fairly certain that I used less than the specified amount, (probably about 1/4 teaspoon) as freshly ground salt can be "saltier" in flavor. I was also surprised to see baking soda listed as an ingredient and wondered if it shouldn't be baking powder but followed the recipe as directed. Would I make these again? Maybe. They are what they are, a simple pancake.

Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2010
Made this to go with some store bought chicken nuggets, and it went over a storm. A little too ketchup-y for me, and also a little too think. I made more slurry by coming additional pineapple juice and cornstarch and stirring it while adding it to the pot. Came out wonderfully and we will be using this again. Thank you!

Never Fail Applesauce Spice Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2010
I made the recipe pretty much with as written. I have to agree that the frosting is way too sweet (and I have a sweet tooth), plus it makes more than I need. I see that other reviewers reduced the sugar in the cake, but I used an unsweetened, all natural applesauce so the sugar for the cake was fine. I increased the cinnamon to about 1.5 teaspoons (wanted to empty out the little I had in the jar) and didn't have allspice so substituted an equal amount of freshly ground nutmeg. The cake is moist, sweet, spicy, just what I was looking for. Glenda, thank you for this submission.

Chicken with Lemon Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2010
Very good. Substituted 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs for the breasts and only used one egg, substituted dry parsley for the fresh as I didn't have fresh on hand. Pleasant lemon flavor, apple juice adds a touch of sweetness. Thank you for a delicious submission.

Anise Biscotti

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2010
I have a favorite biscotti recipe that I've used for years, but wanted to try these because of the addition of brandy (I was cooking for a wedding reception and wanted a more "adult" biscotti. These are just lovely. I prepared a week in advance and they stayed crisp, the flavor deepened and when I opened the tin container, what an aroma!

Smoked Salmon Spread

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2010
I don't eat salmon (or fish in general) so relied heavily on the reviews of others, and they were right, this recipe is a keeper. The wedding guests I prepared this for loved this recipe, and I as asked for the recipe several times. I reduced the cream cheese and the salmon by half, stuffed in baked wonton cones, with a bit of dill, and these went over like a storm. So good!!! Thank you!

Chicken Florentine Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2010
Oh my, this was very good! Five stars for taste, 4 stars for not being the most healthy choice, smiles. Lots of salt and fat in this but hard not to want more once you start eating it. I reduced canned mushrooms, reduced the bacon bits to 1/3 cup, and the mozzarella to 1 cup, and it was still plenty flavorful and cheesy. Big YUMS. Thank you for sharing this one.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2010
This was very good and will certain be a recipe that I'll refer to again. As with other reviewers, I added a little water, reduced the sugar to 1.5 tsp. The mustard was a little strong me, so next time, for our tastes, I would reduce that as well. Also added a splash of Worcestershire; it's not needed, but it adds a bit more flavor. Thank you, Tamara, for this submission!

Yummy Honey Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: May 23, 2010
This was very good. I took the advice of a couple of other reviewers, added 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger and pineapple. This does not have what I would call a big flavor, but is delicious, and a recipe we will enjoy again and again. Many thanks to the submitter for this keeper recipe.
