About this Cook
Once I moved out of my mom's house, I discovered that I really enjoyed cooking. I don't think there's anything more pleasurable than creating a meal that tastes as though it came from a restaurant. My goal in cooking is to find EXCELLENT recipes and put them all together in my recipe box. I figure by the time I'm 35, I'll have all the recipes I'll ever need and I'll always be super satisfied with my meals! :)
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking new things and plan a menu of meals every week. Out of the 7 meals, 6 of them are usually something I haven't made before and the 1 meal is something I've had that I LOVE. I really enjoy making mexican and italian dishes. Those are my favorite to make. I also enjoy making soups in the winter; I live in Minnesota, so it's always really great to come home and make something super warm and comforting (or have it made by the time I come home if it's in the slow cooker!!!)
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't know that I have favorite family cooking traditions. My family always makes the same things for holidays (sloppy joes on Halloween, turkey on thanksgiving with all the same side dishes we ALWAYS have, ham on Christmas, ham on Easter). I get bored having the same thing all the time and I don't find myself looking forward to the meals at my family's holiday parties.
My cooking triumphs
I can't speak of any specific triumphs. I feel triumphant any time I make something that BOTH my fiancee and I love.
My cooking tragedies
When I first moved into my new home (with a new flat top stove that I had never used before!), I was boiling something (I don't remember what now) and it boiled over. My first thought was just oh, what a mess. But then it caught on fire! I was thinking of something to get to put it out when it stopped burning on it's own.

Sugar Coated Pecans
Brought these to a party and the bowl was hard to stay away from. The pecans were gone within 15 minutes. Delicious!

Tater Tot Bake
This was very good. I followed another's suggestion with the layers - cook meat with onion with generous sprinklings of black pepper and seasoned salt (I added green pepper and minced garlic also), then add soup and milk to cooked mixture. Put that in bottom of casserole dish, top with 1/2 cheddar, top that with tater tots, sprinkle with seasoned salt, and then sprinkle remaining cheddar on top.

Buffalo Chicken Sloppy Joes
I thought this was very good and will be making it again. If you like buffalo chicken dip, you will enjoy this recipe! Here were my changes: Was not spicy enough as written, so I probably more than doubled the buffalo sauce (just added to taste until it was as spicy as I wanted). I only used 1 Tbsp red wine vinegar, and I doubt the recipe needs that at all. Only added 4 oz shredded cheddar and added some nacho cheese sauce I had on hand. The mixture was liquidy after cooking, so I added a bit of flour to thicken it and let it sit simmering for 20 minutes which helped. I served this on thick TOASTED bread (I liked the textural addition of something crunchy).
