I'm a third year University student, going for a Bachelor of Arts in Latin American Studies minoring in History and a Bachelor of Science in Archaeology (maya concentration).
I only eat homemade meals unless I'm starving to death on campus and need a quick meal. I bake my own bread and make home-cooked meals every night regardless of what else is going on.
My favorite things to cook
Mexican foods, or at least my own version of it. According to a co-worker I am ruining his culture but I'm a vegetarian and a canadian so I suppose that will automatically change things up. I also enjoy making muffins since I can finally make them lighter - no more baseballs!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mashed potato Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. Birthdays too if I'm lucky! My grandma makes the best mashed potatoes ever but refuses to do it unless it is a special occasion. Since I live in another province now and don't see them as much, whenever I visit my grandparents is considered a special occasion and I get my potatoes!!
My cooking triumphs
I can make pastry for pies. Seriously that is a huge crazy triumph for anyone who has (previously) tried my pies. They are better now, I promise!! :)
My cooking tragedies
Most recently it was a loaf of bread. I didn't have yeast but thought I could use a combination of baking powder and soda with lemon juice added as well. It of course resulted in a small hard little yellowish-green rock.
