Easy Cheese and Ham Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2009
I made the mistake of not reading other reviews before making this dish. After an hour of baking, the potatoes were still quite firm. It was also very runny. I tranferred the 9 x 13 glass baking dish into the microwave to finish cooking. This helped speed up the process since the other items of our meal were planned for the 1 hour time frame this recipe states. Overall, this recipe is not worth the time and effort. Needs less liquid & more baking time.

Beef Tenderloin With Roasted Shallots

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2002
Believe all these raving reviews. It really is that good! I made this for a dinner party of 15 people last night with a 5 1/2 lb. tenderloin. I was worried about timing the preparation of the meat along with the other sidedishes, so I prepared some of this ahead of time. I roasted the shallots & boiled the wine/broth combination the day before and stored these in the refrigerator. Then I cooked the bacon a couple of hours ahead of time, set it aside to cool and allowed the pan it cooked in to sit on the stovetop. I took the suggestion of a couple of other posters and put the wine/broth mix, the bacon & shallots into the blender to make a smooth sauce. This was really wonderful! After roasting the tenderloin, I poured the smooth sauce into the same pan, whisked in the butter and flour and Voila! - an incredible tasting gravy to spoon over a moist & tender cut of meat. I did roast the tenderloin longer because many of my guests like beef more well done. Even with that, it still could be cut with a fork. My husband and I can't wait to try this again with a more medium rare piece of meat. I've tried many wonderful dishes from Allrecipes, but this one is the very best.

Lemon Pudding Cake I

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2002
I am so glad that I tried this recipe. It is fabulous! I must admit that it seemed a bit strange when I was going through the steps of preparation, but the results are a wonderful, homey dessert. The texture reminded me of a bread pudding in some ways. It tasted even better the next day chilled from the refrigerator. Thank you for sharing your family tradition. I think it will become one at our house also.

Alaska Salmon Bake with Pecan Crunch Coating

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2002
I live in a landlocked Mid-Western state where beef is king. I admit that this recipe was my first attempt of preparing fresh fish at home. This is one area of cooking where I am a true novice, but this recipe turned out fabulous! My husband and I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, my 6 & 10 year olds refused to allow any to pass their lips. (Their loss!) The basting sauce was so tasty that I didn't want any to go to waste so after brushing it onto the salmon fillets, I then poured the remainder over the top. I also crushed the pecans very fine (approximately the same texture as the bread crumbs) because my husband is not a big fan of nuts. Guess what, he didn't even realize this had nuts in it! Thank you Chris for making my first attempt at preparing salmon a success.

Chocolate Lovers' Favorite Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2002
Very intense chocolate rush! I made two of these cakes for my son's birthday party. I sifted a bit of powdered sugar on one of them just for looks. The other cake fell apart a bit when I attempted to remove it from the pan. I followed the other posters' suggestions and allowed it to cool completely, but still got some crumbling. I put a white buttercream frosting on that one to conceal the evidence. (I couldn't bring myself to use chocolate frosting because I thought it would just be cocoa overload! The cakes were moist, not too sweet and certainly live up to their name as - "Chocolate Lover's Favorite Cake". I would advise cutting thin slices because this is so rich.

Butternut Squash Casserole

My family has already requested that I add this dish to the menu for every Holiday meal. The vanilla wafer crust was Heavenly. I appreciate the opportunity to serve a less common vegetable in a way even picky eaters would enjoy. Thank you for the excellent recipe that will become a new family tradition with us!

White Chocolate Orange Cookies

Very unique and flavorful cookie. This has ALOT of white chocolate chips in it. I might reduce the amount to 1 1/2 cups next time. The orange taste is unexpected and fabulous.

To Die For Fettuccine Alfredo

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2002
This turned out well, but my sauce was a bit thin. I think I followed the recipe exactly. My husband loves Fettuccini Alfredo and this met his approval, but it wasn't as good as he gets at some favorite restaurants.

Burgundy Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2002
Wow! My husband actually raved about this and he rarely comments on my attempts with new recipes. My kitchen smelled incredible from the moment this went into the oven. The combinations of garlic, onion & red wine are incredible. The preparation was so simple. I did need to increase the cooking time from 45 min. to about one hour. When adding the gravy mix to the pan drippings, I got a thin, wonderfully flavored sauce (not thick like a gravy). My children enjoyed their servings without the sauce. Thank you so much for this incredible recipe. I can't wait to make it again for guests.

Caramel Apple Pork Chops

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2002
These were delicious! After reading all the suggestions from other posters, I changed the preparation of this recipe. I brushed the pork chops with olive oil then sprinkled a bit of salt & pepper and placed them in a 9 x 13 pan. I prepared the apples in a double recipe of the brown sugar & butter sauce. I used Pumpkin Pie Spice instead of the others in the recipe just to make it a bit simpler. I then poured the sauce & apples over the top of the chops and baked in a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes. After baking, I prepared one more quick batch of butter, brown sugar & spices that I spooned over the top of each pork chop after it was on a plate. They were so beautiful, moist & sweet. My 6 and 9 year old children loved these! Thank you Karena for the great recipe.

Honey Roasted Red Potatoes

I made these potatoes recently with the Caramel Apple Pork Chops also here at allrecipes. It was a great combonation. I followed the other poster's suggestions and increased the honey used. I'm not a big potato eater, but I enjoyed the sweetness of this recipe. Thank you Stephanie!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2002
A perfect chocolate chip cookie! These turn out just the way I like them - fat, soft & full of chocolate chips. Thanks so much Debbie for the recipe. I was able to get 7 1/2 dozen cookies that were 2 inch diameter from this recipe. The vanilla pudding adds just enough subtle flavor to make these special. I don't like chocolate chip cookies that are too greasy and these are not at all. My advice: Make the full amount because they will disappear right before your eyes.

Harvest Salad

My guests all claimed this is one of the best salads they ever tasted! I loved it. I carmalized some walnuts then placed them on top of the salad once it was on each plate. This extra step was well worth the effort. This salad is time-consuming, but it's impressive and fabulous tasting.
