Chipped Beef Ball

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2014
Simply Yummy! This is a recipe I remember from long ago but had forgotten all about it! My sweet grandbaby (age 5) decided it was time for a tea party. (without any tea!) She provided strawberries, grapes and lemon-aid. I provided this chipped beef ball and crackers. It was good the first day and even better the next. Thank you, Lucky Noodles for reminding me of this recipe!

Chipotle Beef Tostadas

Reviewed: May 15, 2014
I made this for Recipe Group and it was a good choice. I thought we would miss the flavor of "taco seasoning" in the beef but we didn't miss it at all! My fiancé and I thought the flavor from the chipotle peppers and sauce gave the mixture a wonderful, smokey, full flavor. The inclusion of chopped potatoes gave it an additional texture and taste that we both enjoyed. We added cheese, salsa and sour cream on top. I only wish I had avocados to add to the meal. Next time I will! I had a bit left for the next day and served in a warmed, soft flour tortilla. It was good too. Thanks for the recipe, I will definitely make it again.

Meatloaf Cupcakes

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2014
This are really good and fun! I used a 12-cup cupcake pan. Even following the recipe, there was too much mixture to make only 6. The mixture filled 8 of the cups. I assume a 6-cup muffin tin has larger cups (like jumbo muffins) than my 12-cup pan. I ended up putting the mashed potatoes on the side (with gravy). My young grandbaby doesn't like her food to "touch" anything else on her plate so I thought the potatoes on the side would be best for her. Unfortunately, she had seen me add the onions and green pepper to the mixture while she was doing her homework so she pretty much nixed them before they were even on the table. Although these did not please the picky child, the rest of us enjoyed them very much! I received repeated compliments on these meatloaf cupcakes. I will definitely make them again. I will probably double the recipe and freeze the leftovers for a future meal. Thanks for the recipe, matykada!

Sweet Sriracha Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2014
Although a few days late, I made this for Recipe Group. It was really a fun meal to make and was easy too. I prepared it for 3 adults and a five-year-old. I added 3 Tbs Sriracha hot sauce as others suggested and it was not too spicy for us. The chicken was quite moist and tender. My granddaughter said it was "too orangey" and she really likes oranges! "Sweet" is in the title of this recipe and we adults did think it was too sweet for our taste. I will probably make this again but will reduce the orange marmalade to half of the amount called for. I love trying new recipes. Thanks for submitting.

Garlic Butter Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2013
This was simply wonderful! I zeroed in on this acorn squash recipe because it wasn't the sweet kind. I definitely like savory over sweet as other reviewers have mentioned. I have an awesome Garlic Pepper mix (McCormic brand) that I used in place of the separate additions of garlic and pepper and cooked according to time stated. We were still talking about this recipe the next morning. I can't wait to make this again! Thanks for submitting, arich01

Cranberry Chutney

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2013
I made this for Recipe Group. I cut the recipe in half but still used a whole apple. Because I mis-read the directions, I added the apple in at the beginning rather than the end of the cooking process. It still turned out great! We enjoyed the contrast of flavors; sweet, tart and spicy. I made it the day before Thanksgiving and enjoyed the flavor more after it sat in the fridge overnight. Visually, it was a very pretty addition to our Thanksgiving table.

Bierrocks II

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2013
Really tasty! I searched two stores and could not find the frozen bread dough so I made my own dough using the "Honey-wheat sandwich rolls" recipe on this site. It made 12 good size portions with plenty of stuffing for each roll. I accidently used a full pound of ground beef rather than 1/2 LB. I think this recipe would have been even better if I had used the amount stated. The cabbage seemed to be lost in the mixture but that was MY mistake, not the recipe. Next time, I WILL use only the 1/2 LB ground beef. I did add chopped, fresh garlic to the mixture. I like the idea another reviewer said, to add shredded carrot which I will add next time around. I prepared my bierrocks earlier in the day and placed them in the fridge to cook later and they still turned out great. Before baking, I brushed with melted butter/garlic powder mixture. Very good meal! Thank you for submitting.

HERDEZ® Sweet Chipotle Chili Lime Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2013
Wonderful and so simple! I was pleasantly surprised how good this was with a main ingredient coming from a jar..{GASP}. I sprinkled a little "house" seasoning I found on Paula Deen's website onto the frozen wings and cooked as directed. My sweet little granddaughter said they were "yummy and only a tiny bit spicy." I will definitely make these again. I imagine they'd keep well in a slow cooker for our next get-together. I bet they'd be good on the grill too. Thanks Hardez, I am glad I found you!

Ryan's Reverse Popper Dip

Reviewed: May 12, 2013
I made this for Recipe Group a few weeks ago. I used regular cream cheese. WOW! Very, very good. My son practically inhaled it. I plan to take this to the next pot luck I go to. Thanks for an excellent dip recipe Cat Hill!

Grandmother's Peach Fuzz

Reviewed: May 12, 2013
I made this for Recipe Group on Mother's Day. Very good! I didn't really want to share any, but I did. My grocery store only had medium size peaches, not the large size this recipe called for. For that reason, I used 4 medium peaches. I probably used closer to a cup of rum. The peach peel that is blended within the drink gives it an appealing appearance. This is a very pleasant tasting drink that I will be making again.

Huli Huli Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2013
"This is excellent", said George. I thought so too. I used this marinade on country style pork ribs instead of chicken. I did not have sherry on hand so omitted that ingredient. After leaving the pork in the marinade for 6 hours, I covered with foil and cooked them in the toaster oven at 250 degrees for 90 mintues. We finished them up on the outdoor grill and cooked the pork for an additional 20 minutes. I will definately make this again with pork or chicken.

Hard Steamed Eggs

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2013
It only took a little over a half of a century for me to find a recipe for the perfect cooked eggs. I have boiled with vinegar, baking soda, or salt. I have cooked with a slow simmer and a high boil. I have removed from heat and covered and I have baked in the oven. THIS one worked. I was afraid to try it. I followed the directions and there it was! A perfectly cooked egg that peeled very easily. A "hard boiled" egg that peeled easily was my biggest obstacle until I tried this one. Thank you, bd! I will use your recipe from now on!

Boiled Water

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2013
OMG this is sooo good! You've got to try this in the slow cooker! I let it simmer all day while I was at work. At the end of the day when I came home, the smell in my house from the slow cooker was amazing! I can't wait to eat the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. My co-workers will be so envious. Maybe I will share this wonderful recipe with them..or maybe I won't.

Herbed Scalloped Potatoes and Onions

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2013
Very good. Please note the "low sodium chicken broth" or reduce/omit the salt. I made the mistake of using regular broth, (loaded with sodium) and the result was almost too salty. That was my fault, not the recipe. We really enjoyed this recipe and I will definately make again. Topping with cheddar cheese and bacon is good too. Thanks!

Man Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2013
Edited: I originally gave this two stars because it did not look attractive and didn't taste as good as I hoped although the males in the house DID like it. I felt bad leaving a low review and the men wanted me to make it again. This time I used full-fat cream cheese (I used fat-free before). Don't use the fat-free for this one. Fat-free is flavor-free IMO. I used the Hormel chili WITH beans this time and a better quality shredded cheese on top. I think the cheaper cheese I used the first time left a "greasy look" on top. This was definately better the second time around. Yes, I will be making this again. Thanks!

Best Baked French Fries

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2012
We had these tonight and really liked them. They are good! I used russet potatoes because that's all I had on hand. I agree with the submitter that the sugar is necessary in this recipe and the taste of sugar is not detectable. I used freshly ground pepper and kosher salt to season along with a healthy dose of garlic powder. They crisp up very well (due to the addition of sugar). They are best served straight out of the oven when they are most hot and crisp. Thank you mmyers168 for a tasty recipe.

Mock Lobster

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2012
As far as ingredients go, I followed all directions. Due to unforseen circumstances, the chicken sat in the marinade for about 36 hours. We grilled it outside on a beautiful Virginia afternoon. It was a tad on the salty side, so next time I may use fresh garlic or powder instead of garlic salt. (i'm sure the soy sauce added a lot of salt) The chicken was very good and very moist. As far as it tasting like lobster..when I did dip it in butter, I could detect the subtle taste of lobster. Without the butter, no, but it was still very, very good without the butter. Later, I dipped a piece of sourdough bread in the butter and I detected a hint of lobster..so perhaps the butter holds the lobster taste? Anyway, along side of this wonderful chicken, we had a spinach salad and grilled mushrooms, onions and zuchinni squash. I will continue using this recipe. We loved it!

Strawberry Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2012
This is very good and easy. It's a good way to use up those strawberries that are about to turn bad and fuzzy! I did add vanilla extract to the batter and omitted the nuts. Otherwise I followed the rest of the directions. I will definately make this again and will try using other berries too.

Strawberry Fields

Reviewed: May 2, 2012
I made this for my fiancé who loves all kinds of salads. Personally, I do not like the taste of olive oil and to me, it was a dominate taste in the dressing. But for him, I will prepare just about anything to make him happy. He Loved this! The salad was visually appealing and he enjoyed the oil and vinegar dressing. I will happily prepare this salad again for my man. Thank you for submitting, newcook89!

Honey Wheat Sandwich Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2012
Very good hamburger buns! My 3-year-old granddaughter loved them. I did NOT roll the dough out. Instead I formed the dough into 12 buns and placed them on a cookie sheet to rise. They were a good size for a double patty burger and held up very well with burger toppings. We will definately make these again.
