About this Cook
I've only started living away from my parents in the past year and a half. Plus I'm going to be married more than likely in the next 2 years or so. So I'm doing my best to learn to cook well enough for not just myself but the possibility of a family later as well!!
My favorite things to cook
I love Italian oriented foods. Lots of pasta, bread, and sauces. I also like rice-based dishes...but my boyfriend's not so fond of those. I like nearly anything.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family isn't all from one there's lots of traditions from different places. They do all have some various Slavic countries though. I love our version of Holubky (and my boyfriend's family has a different version I'm learning to love as well!) I also like these things we make called Potato Dumplings. They're sort of a mixture of home made mashed potatoes and flour and some basic seasonings like salt that you pat together into dumpling shapes and boil. They're very filling and good with turkey gravy to help them go down as they're very dense when done.
My cooking triumphs
My boyfriend and I have ventured into cooking in the past several months and are getting better. We like to explore new things...we recently made live lobster for the first time for either of us and it did go quite well. We were also really proud to make Holubky (his version and mine) for the first time on our own.
My cooking tragedies
When I first started cooking alone I had a LOT of tragedies!! Lots of things prepared and thrown right away. It's been a big learning process to just learn how to spice by taste and visual measurement (my family has never measured their none of us knows how much spice we use for our recipes) and also all the multitasking in cooking tripped me up quite a lot at first. But I've pretty much overcome those main problems now and I just enjoy combining new recipes to make my own.
