I love to bake and cook for my family. Trying new recipes is one of my favorite things to do. I have a tendency to tweak recipes before I have even tried them. Can't seem to make it as written!
My favorite things to cook
Desserts, breads, sauces for various meats, pasta.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Since I was a small child, every December my Mother, her sister and the three of us kids would get together and make our favorite Christmas cookies. Now that my sister lives close to me, we get together and make the cookies with her daughters. Woe is me, the witch and witchettes moved to Wisconsin! Now who I am going to impose upon to help me cook and decorate 22 dozen Christmas cookies?
My cooking triumphs
Fancy desserts. I love to spend all day in the kitchen, use every single bowl and pan and then have a fabulous dessert to serve. Also, any time my Dad says "pretty good, Beanie," I know I have cooked a great meal! That is the greatest praise my father has given me in over 35 years of cooking. I will certainly bask in the glory!
My cooking tragedies
When I first started baking at 10, I was making an apple pie and realized we were out of cinnamon. The recipe called for an equal amount of cinnamon and nutmeg. So, I just doubled the amount of nutmeg thinking the pie would be fine. When we sat down for dessert, no one like it and it ended up in the trash! To this day, I never put nutmeg in my apple pies.
