Savory Bubble Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2006
I made this bread as a gift for someone. I actually had to make 2 of them because the first one smelled so good. This bread is heavenly. I followed the recipe to the T and added a little more parm cheese to the top before baking. Wonderful.

Oreo® Cookie Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2006
Note: this recipe doesn't not make a "cake" like the one in the photo. it's a layered dessert. My mother used to make this only on special occaisions when I was growing up. I only used one package of cream cheese and used chocolate pudding instead of vanilla. "Healthy" tip: You can find fat free/sugar free versions of every ingredient in this recipe (well, except the powdered sugar). Believe it or not, the healthier ingredients do not take away from the taste of this dessert. Simply amazing. I sent each of my dinner guests home with a Tupperware full of the dessert -- they raved about it all night.

Buttermilk Biscuits III

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2006
My husband's great grandmother made the best (so I've heard) buttermilk biscuits on Earth. She passed it down to his grandmother, she passed it down to his mother, and she passed it down to me. I decided to be prissy and find another recipe for buttermilk biscuits. These aren't as good as Mawmaw's. My husband says they taste like the biscuits he loves at a small country resturaunt, but I think there's something missing. Strange because Mawmaw's recipe only calls for 3 ingredients: self-rising flour, shortening, and buttermilk.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Secret Recipe

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2006
Wonderful smashed potatoes!!! I took other reviewer's advice to boil the garlic with the potatoes. Good idea. My dinner guests loved this dish, and I barely have enough leftovers to revel in the goodness tomorrow. This is now my dinner party "secret weapon".

Easy Homestyle Green Beans

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2006
Pretty good grean beans, but not the flavor I was going for. I used frozen green beans that I had boiled a little, so I added the boiling liquid. Maybe too much? After simmering for 1.5 hours, I didn't have much bacon or onion flavor, just the grease. Dinner guests seemed to like it. I thought it kind of tasted like a blander version of Cracker Barrel's green beans with all the grease. My favorite green bean recipe on this site is still the "Best Green Beans".

D's Skillet Gravy

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2006
Pretty good. Not the country style gravy I was going for. Instead of 4 cups water, I did 2 cups water, 1 cup milk, and 1 cup buttermilk. I had to add cornstarch to thicken it up to my liking and added more salt and pepper. My dinner guests added more salt to it during dinner.

Chicken Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2006
I don't think this chicken could be any better. Another reviewer compared this to Chili's chicken fried chicken -- no way-- this is better! I made it for a dinner party tonight and was so proud of it. Everyone raved about the chicken, and one person left with the recipe. I pounded the chicken thin the night before and seasoned it with seasoned salt before soaking it in buttermilk overnight (makes it really juicy). I didn't think the breading was enough so I added another half sleeve of crackers, more potato flakes, lots more seasoned salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Good thing I did-- I had just enough. Great served with garlic smashed potatoes and green beans.

Bob's Mexican Stuffed Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2006
While my chicken didn't look like those in the pictures, it was very very tasty. My husband actually said it's something they should serve in resturaunts, it's so good. I only used 1 yellow bell pepper, half a yellow onion, and lots of chopped mushrooms (I couldn't justify buying 3 peppers only to use 1/4 of it. We don't normally eat peppers), but it was still very good. Instead of corn flakes, I used smushed up tortilla chips. The smell of the chili powder, seasonings and chips reminded me of the chili cheese Fritos, and I bet they'd be equally as good on the chicken. Served with a dollop of sour cream, a side of yellow rice, and a salad. Yummy.

Aimee's Quick Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2006
Great chicken recipe! My husband is so burned out on chicken right now, but he said dinner tonight was very good. I pounded out the chicken to 1/2" thickness and doused them with a honey mustard/dijon mixture. I also added sharp cheddar cheese on top with the parm. Great recipe!

Beef Enchiladas II

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2006
Very, very good recipe! I took other reviewers' advice and added a can of Rotel and taco seasoning to the ground beef. I didn't have tomato sauce, so I added speghetti sauch to the enchilada sauce, and it was still good. Very spicey with the Rotel. I served this with a side of yellow rice-- very filling dinner!

Ally's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2006
Not good at all. No flavor, even after I added more sugar and vanilla. Soaking the oats in milk made for a soft and chewy cookie, but there was very little texture-- not what I was expecting from an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie.

Easy Ham and Noodles

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2006
My husband said this was the worst dinner I've made, and then we went to Burger King. I followed other reviewer's advice and added muchrooms and peas and I added a potato chip topping. We picked out the mushrooms and chips and left the rest. Too bland and the textures were just not good.

Best Green Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2006
UH-Mazing! I used frozen green beans and cooked them prior to adding to bacon/mushroom mixture. There is a lot of grease from the bacon, so I prefer to drain most of the grease before adding in the green beans. Wonderful recipe-- I made it for the in-laws, and my mother-in-law actually asked me for the recipe!

Stuffed Zucchini

Very good. Husband and I really enjoyed this dinner. I served it with a ceaser salad and cheesey garlic bread. Very filling dinner. I only used 2 zucchini instead of the recommended 3.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2006
Good recipe for meatloaf. My husband and I decided over this dinner that we like a more savory meatloaf, so no more brown sugar for us! Tastes like a bbq. My only real con is that the sugar mixture was very hard to get off the pan!

Almond Green Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2006
Not so great. I used frozen green beans, so they weren't so mushy and ommitted the almonds since my husband doesn't like nuts. In order to get good flavor, you need to have bean and tomato in each bite. A little too bland.
