Retired from the Military where I travelled a great deal around the world and got my foodie tooth. Rather cook a great meal than go out for a mediocore one.
My favorite things to cook
Love to do all oven cooking. Chop my favorite potatoes(usually out of the garden), toss with Olive oil, S&P, do the same on another tray with vegies, sometimes brocolli, ummy, or all root vegies. If I feel like chicken, I marinate it in pieces in white wine, oregano, crushed garlic and olive oil and bake all of the above around 400 for up to 1/2 hr. Check on that brocolli, it cooks sooner. Or if I feel like pork, use sirloin top with thyme, olive oil, s&p. Cut up a pear, an onion, toss in olive oil, s&p, you can also brush with maple syrup, sooo good. Bake 400 for 1/2 hr. If I feel like fish, salmon with garlic, paprika, s&p or haddock with lemon pepper and lemon juice.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The teenager comes home and helps me bake up 5 pizzas, we all like ours different. She helps me by grating the cheese, she even showed me how to make pizza dough from scratch a few years ago and we do it all the time now. She gets all the pans ready for me by brushing with olive oil and topping with cornmeal. I get all the ingredients ready, meat lovers for the other kid, meat plus vegies for the hubby and grandmother. I usually like a greek with sundried tomatoes (grow and dry myself, lots of green peppers, onions and feta crumbled with moza of course. The teenager puts all the sauce on the pizzas after she brushes the dough with olive oil which I roll out and lay out on the pans. She doesn't have sauce on her pizza, just cheese, pepperoni and salami. She lays out all the meats on all the pizzas then I take over with the vegies. Such a great tradition. The other kid does the dishes!!
