I'm a mom of 2 grown kids and a grandma to one 6yr old beautiful girl! My husband and I grew up across the street from each other since the 3rd grade. After going seperate ways from high school, we reconnected and have now been married for almost 3 yrs. We have a lot of fun together! Cooking was my first true hobbie when I first moved out on my own after high school. I've been told I'm pretty good at it but I'm always looking for ways to perfect what I've made. I wouldn't necessarily say I'm at "expert" level but Allrecipes doesn't offer a level in-between intermediate and expert. I also got into the scrapbooking craze in the early 90's. Now I do it mostly on the computer and enjoy it so much so that I have gone back to school to be a graphic arts designer! The only thing that would make my life any more complete would be for my kids to move up here to the bay area.
My favorite things to cook
Having spent most of my life in Tucson, AZ, I am constantly in search of authentic mexican food. (I now live in northern CA.) Finding flour tortillas that are not chewy is impossible here and a real bummer! The grocery stores in Tucson had home-made tortillas delivered daily (sometimes they would still be warm when you picked them up) and would also fire roast green chile's right in front of the entrance in huge cylinders. The smell is amazing and reminds me of home!
CA also has its pluses though. Sourdough bread is tops here and the asian cuisine is unlike any I've ever eaten down south. The first time I tasted thai food I knew it was a feat to be conquered! (Still working on that one.)
I love using fresh ingredients when I cook. Vegtables, herbs, home-made vinegars, olive oil w/ herbs, etc. I'd love to have an herb garden but since I can't afford a gardener and have no desire to do it myself, I guess I'll just have to go buy it at the store. Haha
My cooking tragedies
Yes, the first time I roasted a chicken (in high-school, mind you), I left the pouch of organs in the cavity! Who knew?
