Microwave Corn on the Cob

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
I did two ears at the same time in the husk and silk and wrapped in a paper towel. I cooked for 5 minutes. Maybe another 30 seconds would have been better, but the corn was great. I can definitely agree that microwave is the way to go. By the way, the cooking time, of course, depends a lot on the power of your microwave oven. Ergo, I suggest that in microwave recipes and reviews that we put in the power rating of the microwave oven used. Mine is 1100 watts.

Strawberries Flambeed in Vodka with Hot Ice Cream

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
This was good, but not great. I felt the pepper sauce was too biting. But in reviewing the recipe, I think I goofed and doubled the ratio of ice cream to hot sauce. I doubled the recipe for printing and then halved it for cooking (because some guests didn't come). May have forgotten to put in just half the amount of hot sauce the printed recipe called for. Ya think that may have made a difference?

Grilled Rock Lobster Tails

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
I agree with mstrappero3. You don't need to dip this in melted butter. The marinade is rich enough, but also tends to tone down the richness of the lobster. This is definitely a keeper. Because of the weather, I broiled the tails (using a metal skewer to keep them from curling) about three inches from the heat for about 7 minutes, basting at 3 and 6 minutes.

Cream of Herb Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
I was skeptical at first about making a soup out of nothing but herbs, but this was so good. Because my wife is allergic to onions, I substituted onion powder.

Seafood Stuffed Avocados

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
This is similar to a combination that we often make (salad shrimp on avocado with seafood cocktail sauce), but this is, oh, so much better. Not only does it include crab (I used fresh dungeness), but the cucumber adds a fresh touch that's great.
