Dinner in a Dish

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2006
This was pretty good. I used turkey instead of the beef and it was fine. It did have a strong ketchup flavor so I might reduce next time. Overall though, a nice variation of shepards pie, and easy to make.

Creamy Spiced Coleslaw

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2006
Super yummy!!! My hubbie had 3 servings in a row, and he talked about it for days! The best part is that its super easy to make. Wouldn't change a thing.

Basic Chicken Stock

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2006
Very good and easy, I like to have stock stored in the freezer so I doubled the water and simmered for 2 hours.

Roasted Beet and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2013
Have to say, I hate it when someone rates the recipe after altering it but here I go (was trying to use up leftover misc things in my fridge from Christmas). First off, I used an acorn squash in add'n to the potato and beets (roasted as directed). I used leeks instead of the onion. For the chick broth, I used 1 cup chick broth (all that I had left), 2 cups vegetable broth and 1 cup white wine (btw-"Better than Bouillon" is awesome). For the milk, I used 1 cup hvy cream and 1/2 cup 1% milk (what I had on hand). This was EXCELLENT but rich. Will make again :)

Sliced Potatoes with Bacon and Parsley

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2006
Potatoes were way too vinegary, and the flavors just didn't meld. Also, it made ALOT...ended up throwing out most of it.

Fresh Vegetable Stir-Fry with Peppery Orange Beef

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2006
We just got done eating this...yummy! It was a bit spicier than i expected and there were more veggies than needed. The cabbage was surprisingly good in this. Will make again but with less veggies/red pepper.

Cafeteria Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2006
A good recipe, my 10 year old helped me make it. I followed the recipe exactly, used mild cheddar, and I liked the texture /consistancy. Next time I will try half mild and half sharp to see if it gives it any umph. Hard to find a recipe that doesn't call for processed cheese!

Meaty Mexican Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2006
Would have given a 3 1/2 rating, but since there are no half ratings, I rounded up...A fairly good sandwich. Not "mexican" at all. Basically a dry sloppy joe with nuts and raisins. If I make again, will maybe add a can of tomato sauce to make it saucier.

Chocolate Chip Cookies II

Pretty good, but I've made better...these were easy to prepare though and lets face it, is there really such thing as a bad cookie?

Pecan-Oatmeal Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2006
These were good but "heavy", can't eat too many or you'll be sorry! When mixing up the batter, i didn't think they were going to turn out, but was pleasantly surprised. Easy to make, a nice change from plain pancakes. Next time i'll use a little less oatmeal and pecans, but brown sugar was perfect for just a hint of sweetness.

Potato and Bacon Salad

This was pretty good and very easy to make. Next time I'll use more mustard and maybe some red onions.

Mike's Homemade Pizza

Made the sauce only and it was pretty good, my daughter thought it tasted too spaghetti sauce-ish.

New Year's Day Black-Eyed Peas

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2006
When i initially made this, i didn't care for it (way too much water, and a bit more onions than i like). However, the next day i had some for lunch cold from the fridge and it was soo good! I was actually craving it for days after. Cold is the way to go!!

Chicago Deep Dish Pizza

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2006
The recipe was easy to follow but the crust was very thick and with not much flavor (my hubbie exclaimed when he saw it "its pizza with a loaf of bread attached to it". That about sums it up.

Garlic-Shrimp Angel Hair

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2007
Very good...the sauce was perfect, I've made other alfredo based meals before and found the sauce too rich...I also only used half the suggested hot sauce and it was the right amount of spice for me.

Bikini Martini

I have found MY drink...perfect and soo easy to make! Tweaked abit, not a fan of strong alcohol taste: 3/4 oz vodka, 1 1/4 oz each pineapple juice and malibu shaken with ice, strained with a splash of grenadine (actually double ingred. for a serving)...a must make!

Sylvia's Ribs

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2006
This is a great rib recipe, however next time I will use less sugar (a bit too sweet) and will cut sauce by a third (made way too much!). Also, 2 lbs just isn't enough for 4 people-of course, maybe we're just rib piggies! Actually used 4 lbs and it was just right.
