Italian Turkey Meatballs

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2014
I was looking to try a different turkey meatball recipe, and came upon this one. I followed the recipe, except that I have no idea what Melt Organic Buttery Spread is, so I just used a butter non-stick cooking spray to spray the pan. I can't imagine that this altered the flavor of the meatballs at all. The meatballs were okay, but not great, in my opinion. The taste of fresh oregano is a bit strong, so perhaps a bit less would have been better. I also thought they could have used a pinch more salt. I served these with spaghetti and a simple tomato sauce. I thought they were a step up from "just okay", so I would give them 3 1/2 stars, but when I asked my husband what he would rate them, he said 3 stars. I will keep searching .

Heavenly Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2014
I had no trouble at all with this recipe. It was easy and quick to put together. I was a bit short on the semi-sweet chocolate squares, so I used some semi-sweet chocolate chips to make up the difference, and they worked just fine. This mousse is definitely rich, almost like chocolate ice cream. My kids and I enjoyed it, but I think it was too much for my husband(he doesn't really have a sweet tooth). I topped the mousse(in ramekins) each with more fresh whipped cream and a whole strawberry. Good recipe!

Tasty Grilled Hoisin Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2014
I made chicken thighs using this recipe. I also baked them at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes. They turned out well. I served them alongside steamed white rice, and Restaurant Style Egg Drop Soup from this site. My husband and son really liked them, but my daughter did not. I thought they were pretty good. In all fairness, these are probably better grilled as the recipe states to do, unfortunately, baking them was my only option.

Restaurant Style Egg Drop Soup

Great recipe. I skip the chives, but I don't think it takes away from the taste of the soup. It's a cheap and easy soup to make. My kds love it!

Basic Crepes

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2014
So glad I tried this! I followed the advice of another reviewer and first mixed the eggs, milk and water, then added the flour. I was always nervous to try making crepes because I thought I would mess them up, but these were so easy! I made them for my kids, and served them with a squeeze of lemon and powdered sugar. My kids(and husband) loved them! Will make again for sure...thanks for sharing!

Simple Garlic Shrimp

This was okay, but I was expecting it to be great based on all the 5 star reviews. Not sure what, but it was lacking something for me.

Good cookies. I omitted nuts because I didn't have any. I halved the recipe in case they weren't very good, but fortunately, they were!

Beefaroni

I thought this might appeal to my kids, but they did not like it at all. They wouldn't eat it. My husband could only eat a few bites of it. I will not be making this again.

Fisherman's Catch Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2014
I would say I'd give this recipe 3 1/2 stars, if I could. I liked it enough to eat it, but I don't know if I will make it again. I was a bit skeptical about fish in a crockpot, but it actually did not taste strange, like I thought it would. Although, I think the time( 7 to 8 hrs on low) was too long. I guess the 3-4- hours on high would have been better because before the 7 hours, my fish became kind of mushy. Sometime around the last 2 hours I added a couple of quartered red potatoes. Nice addition, in my opinion. I have to admit, my house smelled incredible. My husband really enjoyed this, my kids...not so much. I didn't think they would. Me, well, although I liked it, and it came together very easily, I will keep looking for a fish chowder recipe that my family will all enjoy.

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
Very good! I agree that it may take away from the taste of the fish itself, but tilapia is pretty mild anyway. Good recipe if you aren't big on fish. We love all kinds of fish, and this recipe was a different and tasty new way to prepare it! Think this might work on other fish, maybe even shrimp or chicken...Will try it out sometime!

Garlic Green Beans

I used fresh green beans. These were okay, but a little too oily I thought. Not bad, but don't think I will make again.

Greek Avgolemono Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2014
Very tasty. Make sure to fully beat the egg and lemon, and follow directions to slowly ladle broth into egg mixture to avoid scrambled egg bits in your soup. Good recipe, thanks.

Toum

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2014
I have been making this recipe for a long time now. We love it! You can adjust the garlic and lemon to your liking. I use a lot of garlic, and quite a bit of lemon, along with some kosher salt, and I make it in my food processor. First, I mince the garlic by hand, then I process it with salt and lemon, slowly streaming the oil to emulsify. You can serve this with anything, meats, chicken, seafood, veggies, as a spread or dip. It is great just with pita bread. I also sometimes use the leftovers to make a salad dressing! Awesome!

Best Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2014
I was making a bread pudding today, using another bread pudding recipe on here but after I put it in the oven I decided I wanted to make a sauce with it. I always make it without a sauce. I found this recipe while searching and thought I would try it. I realize it's not exactly fair to rate a partial recipe, but I try to rate every recipe I make. Well, this is only a review for the sauce that goes with this bread pudding(which, I am sure is fabulous, and I will be making for sure). The sauce was great! It was not overly sweet, in my opinion, and was rich and silky. I will serve my bread pudding with a sauce from now on:) Thanks for sharing!

Salmon Tango

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2013
I made this salmon for tonight's dinner, however, I baked it at 375 for about 25 minutes. It was good, but I thought it was definitely more sweet than sour. I will make this again, but for my taste, it could use some lemon juice, or mustard powder and ginger, or just less sugar to lessen the sweetness.

Fast and Friendly Meatballs

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2013
I was all set to make these meatballs, and then realized that I only had plain breadcrumbs. I went ahead and made these, but had to improvise a bit by adding 1/2 tsp of salt, 1/2 tsp of onion powder, 1/2 tsp of garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp pepper. I chose not to use any Italian seasoning because I wanted to keep these pretty plain in hopes that my kids would eat them. Well, my 6 yr old did, but my 4 yr old didn't. My husband and I thought that these turned out well. I like that there was no chopping or mincing to be done. Simple and easy, basic recipe.
