Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2010
YUMMY! I made this recipe with butter instead, because Mama always told me to use butter! I also used 1/2 buckwheat flour, added ground flax seeds, and used 1 tsp cream of tartar and 2 tsp baking soda. These were SO good, and when covered with foil, did not go stale after 5 days. I'm suprised they lasted that long.

Broccoli and Cheddar Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2009
Awesome soup! I ended up making a roux with the flour and milk (melt 1.5 tbsp butter, add 2 tbsp flour, slowly add milk) and added the cheese to the milk. Yummy!

Juicy Peach Crisp

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2009
This came out SOOO good. I doubled the recipe for a 9x12 inch pan with no problems. Instead of adding cinnamon, I added ground ginger because I like the combination of peaches and ginger. It was fantastic hot, and pretty great cold too. This is the kind of sugar-y streusel top "crisp" I was looking for--- not the biscuit-y kind.

Crispy Gingersnaps

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2008
These gingersnaps are soooo good! I added extra spices, a sprinkle each of cloves, nutmeg, cayenne pepper and white pepper... gives it extra spiciness!!! I also flattened these cookies when placing them on the pan. I only fit 9 to a smaller cookie sheet/ 12 to a bigger cookie sheet as they spread a lot. Yumm-sters!

Frosted Nutmeg Logs

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2008
I have never had nutmeg logs before, so I have no comparison. These came out really dry... not the yummy crumbly dry but the dry driness that just makes you think it needs more butter or something... it's a good idea but it would taste better in some crumbly cookie ball rather than these drab little logs. If you do make this recipe, though, make your logs about the size of your big toe or else you will have too many cookies and get really mad icing them like I did. They are not so horrible that I would not give them to people, but I am glad I have other cookies to offer as well.

Slovak Stuffed Cabbage

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2008
Awesome recipe-- I hadn't ever had halupki made with sauerkraut, and it was good. Thanks for the recipe Also- I just used tomato sauce and crushed tomatoes, didnt have ground pork, nor parsley. It came out good, and was even better the next day. I also wished I had more cabbage leaves, as I ran out.

Sukhothai Pad Thai

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2008
Yummy! I didn't even have the bean sprouts, and it was still good (though the sprouts would have been a good addition) For the noodles, we boiled them for about 2 minutes, turned off the stove, and then they sat for about 2 minutes. When you stir fry the noodles, they cook more and absorb the sauce. You do not want to overcook the noodles or they will turn to paste.

Pasta with Tomatoes and White Beans

Reviewed: May 2, 2008
The feta cheese really makes it--- I also add onions and garlic and all that good stuff, but the idea of using feta cheese is great. Thanks!

Yummy- they weren't dried out or hard, they were just good. I used them in the Chicken and Buiscuit casserole on this site, yum yum yum. Thanks Southern Lady!

Chicken and Biscuit Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2008
Yum!!! I used cooked chicken thighs as the chicken- I boiled them in a bit of water with some spices, and used that broth for the broth called in the recipe. I used oregano, chili powder, cumin, red pepper, salt and pepper. This recipe was seriously good.

Special Irish Beef Stew

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2008
I thought this stew was way too tomato-ey. It just tasted like bitter tomatoes. It would've been better with just beef broth and the beer. We threw the leftovers away

Beefaroni

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2008
Good base recipe. I followed it and added my usual spices- garlic, garlic powder, chili powder, red pepper powder, cumin, soy sauce, pepper, and worchester sauce. I also didn't bake it, because we were hungry and the ingredients were cooked anyways. But the boyfriend said "This is good." and we ate all the leftovers.

The Old Boy's Strawberry Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2008
MMMM!!! Even the boyfriend said "This is Good Pie!" I followed all directions- reading reviews to not put in excess sugar/flour/cornstarch. I didn't have much of it anyways. I also didn't use all the crumb topping. I usually like a 2 crust pie, but this was good!

Mexican-Style Goulash

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2008
My boyfriend said "I thought we were having burgers!" and I said "We're out of bread" but he was pleased with the end result of this recipe, and so was I. I veered away from the tomato base and added 1 can diced tomatos, a couple tablespoons of tom. sauce, but used beef broth to make up for the water and the missing tomato sauce. Also, I added one really finely diced potato and cumin as others have offered, as well as chili powder, garlic powder, extra cayenne, oregano, sea salt, pepper... It came out good, we'll eat it again!

Flatlander Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2007
Awesome chili! Made small additions- used black and pinto beans, 1 lb of beef, onions and peppers of course, added cocoa powder and cinnamon. Boyfriend said first, "This is some fireball stuff!" and so we added some sour cream, his next comment "This is the best chili you ever made." Thanks for the great recipe.

Creamy Chicken Rice Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2007
This came out really good, but I did a few things differently based on a friend's advise. We cooked the onions and then added raw chicken on the bone and some water and boiled it until done, then deboned and chopped the chicken. This made our stock. Then we added the rice, and made the roux when the rice was done. The white wine and lemon juice really gave this soup great flavor. A+ recipe, great proportions, just really good soup. Thanks

Peach Pie the Old Fashioned Two Crust Way

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2007
Wonderful pie, I used the suggestion of keeping in the oven after done baking, turning the oven off... it set perfect. I didn't cut it until the next morning after sitting in the refrigerator- no runniness. Also, I didn't add cinnamon or nutmeg, but ginger because it seemed that would taste more summer-y, and it turned out "Yummy!" My boyfriend really likes this recipe also. First time peach pie baker :) Also, I forgot the lemon juice, but i think I would have added it, maybe 1 tbspn if I were going to make it again, which I will. Thanks for the recipe!

Apple Pie I

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2007
This pie came out very watery, despite the flour I put in the layers. I should have put more flour in. Also, I would have used brown sugar instead of white sugar (it carmalizes like caramel!) but it still came out OK, just watery. Use 4 tbsp of flour, some on bottom, and be liberal with it. I like Apple Pie II on this site but it's a little more complicated to make, and uses more butter.

Sour Cream Apple Pie Deluxe

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2007
This pie was much too sweet, and I was expecting something creamier. Instead, it was like a chunky custard that had too much sugar in it. If I were to make it again, I would have less sugar, no cinnamon in the topping, and might not bake it for too long, maybe cook the apples first. I really had high hopes for the pie.
