Heirloom Blueberry Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2013
This was great as written; didn't find it too sweet at all. Added about half a teaspoon of strong almond flavoring and a handful of sliced almonds to the batter, then sprinkled more sliced almonds and a bit of sugar on top before baking.

Nanny's Steamed Cranberry Pudding

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2010
Really nice - used an antique pudding mold and did not have time for the sauce (used storebought - ugh), but the pudding is delightful. Coarsely chopping the cranberries helps distribute the flavor. Perfect ending to Christmas dinner!

Gingerbread Boys

This is a truly excellent recipe. The amount of orange zest is just perfect for a hint of citrus along with the spice. I rolled out and baked on parchment paper - easy peasy - and decorated with Sugar Cookie Icing from this site.

Baked Cranberry Pudding

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2010
I've been making this recipe since Taste of Home first published it back in 1836 or whenever it was. It's a cranberry pudding. It has cranberries in it. They're cranberries, people. They're tart.

Pizza Dough II

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2010
Great recipe exactly as written, but easily adapted to different flours as others have noted. Due to timing I had to let it rise a second time before shaping and it was fantastic. Rolled very thin and cooked on a hot pizza stone resulted in a wonderful crisp crust; slightly thicker and cooked in a pizza pan produced a doughier, tender crust, also very good. The reviewer that said your kids will beg for this almost daily? Spot on...

Very, very good! And you get an intense upper-body workout in step 3, which means you can eat two pieces without any guilt. :)

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
As the 2,578th reviewer, what can I say? This is a fantastic recipe and eminently tweakable. I use my own favorite crust (the "vodka" recipe from Cooks Illustrated) and toss some cinnamon into the apples. Hooray for Grandma Ople!

Chicken Wings Fricassee

We really like this recipe - have made it several times now, and to address the chicken-broth-or-water dilemma, either works just fine. You can't mess this one up and it's delicious. Thanks!

Garlic Shrimp Linguine

Agree with other reviewers to increase the sauce ingredients and add some crushed red pepper. Yum! Believe it or not, grated Parm from a can blends a lot better than fresh cheese - no clumping.

Cathy's Amazing Fish Chowder

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2009
This is it, in its simple glory! (I agree with the reviewer who uses salt pork instead of bacon, though.) If you're looking for "the" Maine fish chowdah recipe, it don't get much closah than this heah.

Fish Tacos

Oh, how we love this recipe! I make these with leftover pan-fried fish and I'm not very careful about measuring the sauce ingredients, but man, this combination is tough to mess up.

Sesame Noodles

Lovely recipe as written, and so easy to tweak to fit your tastes or what you have on hand. Minced fresh ginger is a nice addition to the sauce; throw some chicken teriyaki on top and it's a meal. Leftovers are great cold. Thanks!

Triple-Grain Pilaf

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
This is a really nice change from rice and easily adaptable to what you have on hand or what you're serving it with. I used chopped yellow onions instead of green and chicken broth instead of beef. A shot of garlic would not be amiss....

This was excellent as written - rave reviews from the whole family. I'll probably throw in some garlic next time around (maybe not a "traditional" seasoning, but how can you go wrong!)...
