About this Cook
I am a 22 year old college student studying creative writing and visual art. I love to cook and the challenge of creating fantastic, vegetable rich foods on a tiny college budget, as well as exploring a mean passion for cheeses. I have been cooking my own meals since I was 13 and decided to become a vegan. Although I am not a vegan anymore, it did lead me to love food and to experiment with the ingredients that I have. Now my mission as a cook is to break down all misconceptions that vegan and vegetarian cooking is all bland and disgusting. It's not, it's fantastic!
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE to experiment with Pasta dishes with various different vegetables and sauces. There are so many possibilities! I also have recently developed a passion for soups. The creative aspects of cooking are what appeal to me as an artist / cook, so I mostly like to cook things that allow me to experiment with my ingredients.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Father and Grandfather were both really into bread baking while I was growing up. There is nothing better then hot bread just from the oven with little pools of butter floating on top! My Father is also a master of oatmeal.
My cooking triumphs
My most incredible cooking triumph was the lamb I cooked on Easter for a dinner party my boyfriend and I were having. Apparently it turned out perfectly, which was incredible because I am a vegetarian. I had never cooked meat before in my life. So proud of that!
My cooking tragedies
When I was 15 or 16 two of my friends and I decided to make hummus with no recipe and no help from our mothers. We soaked the beans all night but never boiled them! We made raw hummus. It was horrible! And so, so sad. Although we were able to salvage it by turning it into pseudo falafels.
