Fresh Strawberry Upside Down Cake

Reviewed: May 12, 2010
This cake was FANTASTIC!! THANK YOU!! i did not crush the strawberries, instead I quartered them. I used Sugar Free Jell-O and it turned out & tasted FABULOUS!! I also used an extra cup of marshmallows...still PERFECTION! I think I will try this with Raspberries or Mandarin Oranges - - then you won't have to crush them.

Lemon Yogurt Pound Cake with Lemon Glaze

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2010
There are many alternatives to the 1 C. Crisco (shortening) that are healthier. My suggestions are: use half butter 1/2 oil...or you could use 1/2 Applesauce or whatever ratio you desire to make it healthier...a 3rd option would be to use White Bean Puree and your children wouldn't be able to taste the difference.

Apple Streusel Cobbler

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
I made this recipe for my daughters birthday - - and it was a HIT!..."Ooohh's & Aaaahhh's" Everyone raved over this recipe. I used my own homemade apple pie filling (32oz bottle instead of the 21oz can) so it gave more body to the recipe. I doubled the recipe (but not the sweetened condense milk) I served it with vanilla ice cream since it is very sweet, next time will drop the brown sugar to half. Trust me, it won't hurt the flavor or recipe at all! This is a KEEPER recipe! Thank you!

Mom's Country Gravy

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2009
I dropped the pepper by half. My family still commented on the "peppery" taste. As suggested by other reviews, I used 1/4 Cup Butter, 2 TBSP. Bacon Drippings (for the flavor) and 2 TBSP. Oil. Recipe turned out FABULOUS! THANK YOU!

Pumpkin Oatmeal

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2009
I have a larger family, so I did NOT microwave. I used water instead of milk, then just topped my bowl (and the children's too) with Half & Half, a rare treat. The pumpkin left a raw taste, so cooking it for additional 10 minutes helped tremendously! Which in turn allowed the spices to blend better, don't forget to salt it. The children still loved it and asked for it to made again. Note:Because recipe is not too sweet, some of my children added dried cranberries, some of them just added 1 Tbsp Maple Syrup. (yea, I have 6 children.)

Corn Dog Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2009
My family ate this all up! I cut the hotdogs into thirds for the regular size muffin. I also cut the hot dog into fourths for a "mini" corn dog muffin and the children were so delighted! I had NO leftovers! This was so simple to make - this is MUST MAKE AGAIN recipe! I love the fact that there is NO FRYING! Healthier all around. Thank you!

Bacon Mushroom Swiss Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2009
FANTASTIC!! I would've never thought of it myself as a meatloaf. I had guests over and they all raved over it. For extra nutritional value, I used a whole grain (like oats or other rolled grain) in place of the crumbs and it turned out fabulous! The topping was necessary - making it perfect!

Apple Cranberry Streusel Custard Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
This recipe looks fabulous, so I tried it. I followed other reviews comments, and I half'd the cranberries and the apples and left everything else the same. It turned out PERFECT, I allowed it to cool in the oven, as that helped the custard set better. The dessert was a hit with my young family too. THANK YOU, I will make this again.

Amber's Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
I tripled the sauce recipe. This recipe was FANTASTIC. I am glad that red pepper flakes are optional, as my children didn't like the "after-heat", so I will omit that the next time around. THANK YOU! This recipe is a keeper and will be repeated often.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
Excellent recipe very similar to my personal recipe. The only difference, is that I used rolled oats instead of crushed crackers for a heartier alternative. I put the ketchup/brown sugar as the topping and have been for over 20 years.

Herb Butter Roasted Turkey

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
This recipe turned out fabulous! The only thing different that I did, was that I pat tried the turkey with papertowels and then rubbed the herb butter all over it. I baked it breast side down for 2 hrs. Then I reapplied the remaining herb butter and then turned the bird breast side up, both sides were roasted, with crispy skin and the breast meat was tender and juicy. Everyone raved about the flavor. The base made an incredible gravy.

Slow Cooker Tapioca Pudding

Reviewed: May 6, 2008
I love Tapioca Pudding! I don't make it very often as it does take watching over. I am glad to say that is not the case anymore! Couldn’t be any easier to make - I will make this pudding-doubled more often from now on. I took some other reviewers advice and added some vanilla and salt, doubled the recipe and cooked it on high for 3 hrs. Came out perfecto. My advice would be to combine the sugar, eggs and tapioca first, then stir in the milk. I stirred the pudding about every 30 minutes, especially when it started to set, make sure to scrape the bottom to break up the clumps of tapioca. Excellent comfort food! Side Note: Experimenting with other extracts is an awesome adventure that was successful every time (about 1 tsp. depending on how strong you want the flavor to stand out.)

Slow Cooker Cherry Cobbler

Reviewed: May 6, 2008
Excellent idea! I doubled the cherry pie filling (not the topping), I have a large family and I was using a large crockpot. FABULOUS! I also tried the recipe with regular canned peaches (2 large cans for a regular size crockpot), drained, adding 1 TBSP. of Bisquick & 1 tsp. cinnamon as a thickener. It was a huge SUCCESS! I will do this more often, so it doesn't heat up my house so much during the summer! Thank You!

Lemon Cooler Cream Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2007
I've been using this recipe for years! I love it! Another tip: I have made this recipe using yellow or white cake and orange jell-o, strawberry jell-o or raspberry jell-o. Garnishing (Depending on the jell-o flavor) with either mandarin oranges or strawberry slices, or rapberries - it is an excellent touch. I've NEVER had left overs!
