Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2007
I've been searching for a buttercream that is creamy, not too sweet and not greasy. This is the perfect one. I've been baking for a long time and this is the best buttercream I've ever tasted. It pipes well too. I did use 1/2 butter instead of all shortening. I like that it makes a large amount too. Thanks for sharing this wonderful, easy recipe.

The Best Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2007
I've been searching for the perfect pound cake recipe and I think that, with a little tweaking, this could be it. I did cut the sugar (to 2-1/2 c) as suggested by some other reviewers. Next time I make it, I think I'll cut the lemon and use more vanilla and try making it with butter. I can play with the taste, but I want to definitely keep the texture which is perfect in my opinion. Thanks for this one!

Easy Delicious Old Fashioned Coleslaw Dressing

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2007
This is a very good recipe but I like a little sweetness in my cole slaw, so I substituted sugar for the salt. Good on pork barbecue sandwiches.

Herbed Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2007
This is an excellent side dish. Very tasty. I used a wild/brown rice mixture instead of white rice (healthier), threw in some sliced mushrooms and cooked on top of stove instead of in oven, but the results were great! The next time I make it I'll add some dried cranberries to compliment the nuttiness of the wild rice.

Big Guy Strawberry Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2007
I made this one evening and it was gone in a flash. All I got was one little piece :-( But that piece was wonderful and apparantly everyone else in my household thought so too. Will definitely be keeping this on my list of favorites.

Pecan Crusted Chocolate Truffle Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2007
The filling to this pie was very rich and delicious - but I didn't care for the crust. It became very hard and therefore difficult to cut. But I'll make it again. I may just use a shortbread crust instead.

Cream Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2007
I made this cake exactly to the directions and it turned out wonderful. I didn't find it salty at all. It rose perfectly and was level. I split the cake and filled it with a strawberry whipped cream filling and frosted it with sweetened whipped cream. Have been searching for the perfect yellow cake and I think this is it! Only complaint is that it makes a small cake, so I'll have to double it next time.

Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2007
Very good for my first attempt at making homemade donuts. Very tasty and better than anything to come out of a shoppe. I sugared some and made a chocolate glaze for some.

Artichoke, Cheese and Olive Antipasto

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2007
Delicious! As another reader suggested, I left out the olive oil since the artichokes contained oil. Besides that, I followed the recipe to the letter. It definitely is better the next day.

Tortellini Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2007
This is a very good soup. And so easy to prepare. Only changes I made were using chicken stock instead of vegetable, and using a 10oz pkg. of frozen chopped spinach. I also added some carrots and cooked the tortellini separately adding right before serving. These were all suggestions of previous reviewers so I can't take credit for them however, I would suggest the same changes. Will definitely be making this again.

Peanut Butter Pie I

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2006
I needed a quick dessert for an impromptu dinner and decided to try this recipe. It was absolutely delicious and a big hit. I did make a few minor adjustments based on feedback from a friend of mine who made it. I cheated and used a Keebler chocolate crumb crust (something I rarely do but was pressed for time). I decreased the sugar to 3/4 c and increased the whipping cream to 1.5 c to make it a little fluffier. I also popped it in the freezer for a few hours before serving. Wow!!! I'll certainly be making this again and again and again....well, you get the picture! :-)

Maryland Crab Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2006
This is the best and easiest tomato-based crab soup I've ever made or eaten. I've made it several times already as we do a lot of crabbing in the summer. I find it much easier to just use a bag of frozen mixed veggies.

Very Fruity Rum Punch

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2005
I was looking for a quick, easy punch for my Christmas party and came across this recipe. Wow, I'm glad I did! It's delicious. I wound up making 3 batches and there were only 8 people drinking it! Definitely will be making it again. I floated a fruited ice-ring in it to make it more festive.

Cannoli Cake Roll

This cake is delicious. I multiplied the filling by 1-1/2 so that I'd have more filling since that was the best part. Took it to a family party and it went in no time.

Ultimate Maple Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2004
Delicious! A new take on an old favourite. Only change I made was mixing the rolling sugar 1:1 with the maple sugar (i.e. 1/4 cup of each)
